Boston Globe: Civil rights hiring shifted in Bush era
Civil rights hiring shifted in Bush era
Conservative leanings stressed

By Charlie Savage, Globe Staff | July 23, 2006

WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration is quietly remaking the Justice Department's
Civil Rights Division, filling the permanent ranks with lawyers who have strong
conservative credentials but little experience in civil rights, according to job
application materials obtained by the Globe.
<snip>
In an acknowledgment of the department's special need to be politically neutral,
hiring for career jobs in the Civil Rights Division under all recent administrations,
Democratic and Republican, had been handled by civil servants -- not political
appointees.

But in the fall of 2002, then-attorney general John Ashcroft changed the procedures.
The Civil Rights Division disbanded the hiring committees made up of veteran career
lawyers.
<snip>
The profile of the lawyers being hired has since changed dramatically, according
o the resumes of successful applicants to the voting rights, employment litigation,
and appellate sections. Under the Freedom of Information Act, the Globe obtained
the resumes among hundreds of pages of hiring data from 2001 to 2006.

3. I've called it the "contra government" for years now

May 7, 2002

The radical policy makers of the current administration have proven they cannot be trusted. What they are showing is their agenda for America's future. This agenda includes the corruption of the judicial system; the abuse of Christian principles to impose a theocracy (through the "faith-based" initiative); the destruction of the Constitution and Bill of Rights (through the USA Patriot Act); the destruction of democratic organizations (such as unions - as in the prevention of the UAL strike, which thwarted legitimate employee grievances); the dismantling of the public education system (through under-funding in excess of $10.5 Billion); the transfer of public and private assets (through eminent domain - recently in Mississippi the Courts ruled that independent landowners could not refuse to sell their land to Japanese-owned Nissan). We also have the continued usurpation of our public airwaves through media mergers. All major media is now controlled by fewer than ten (10) corporations. Their agenda is to shift our country from being one of individual liberty (as enumerated in the Bill of Rights) to one controlled by the ruling class of a self-selected few.

5. How can there be permanent jobs? Nothing is permanent in politics
except for the appointments of Supreme Court Justices. And even then, there's an out. Impeachment, I believe, is still an option.

10. Too bad this info wasn't released before his bogus NAACP appearance.
Maybe nobody would have stayed in the room to listen to his trash-talk BS. The civil rights of people of color are always the hardest to keep, and the first to be suppressed.

11. They also hate anything to do with Affirmative Action
All the comments are ....we don't have any discrimination in America any more, this is an out dated policy, everyone should be admitted to universities via their abilities not their color, Black people are disgusted by being given preferential treatment it is patronizing to them to be treated differently than others, some white kids with excellent grades and abilities are over looked in favor of minorities,....blah, blah, blah,,, btw, did this administration do away with affirmative action, yet, I know Limpballs was bitching about it sometime ago?
