1. IN the future
"spreading democracy" will be hailed with about as much affection as "spreading leprosy or herpes" and will be about as fondly remembered as a pesky case of acne on your prom night.

3. The word 'Democracy' has now been smeared so badly
it may never recover.

Every time it drips from the mouth of Bush and Blair as blood continues to be spilt half the world recoil

Democracy is coming to mean, invasion, occupation, violence, empire, hypocrisy, death.

I hate them for it.

2. If they can't hold Basra,
There's going to be a bunch of burning tankers in the Persian Gulf, and no oil coming out of Iraq for all intents and purposes.

Basra is key to oil.

8. That was my thought too
Unless they were sitting in a depot or a convoy or something, there must have been a lot of firebombs hurled.

9. "They were met by a hail of stones from a crowd of several hundred "

......Within minutes of the crash, British forces, backed by armoured vehicles, rushed to the area. They were met by a hail of stones from a crowd of several hundred shaking fists and dancing as the smoke rose.

Iraqi president Jalal Talabani last night sent condolences to the British families. 'I can assure you that Iraqis continue to honour and appreciate the efforts and sacrifice made by Her Majesty's forces,' he said.

Shadow Defence Secretary Liam Fox and Lib Dem spokesman Nick Harvey both issued statements expressing sympathy for the families of the victims but said the crash raised broader questions. Harvey said the 'appalling incident' reinforced the need for a British 'exit strategy' from Iraq.
