Israel 'would accept' peace force
24 July 2006

Israel has said it is prepared to accept a European peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon providing it is robust and has a strong mandate.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert made the announcement after his government met envoys from Germany, France and the UK.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrives on Monday for talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

A senior United Nations envoy, Jan Egeland, has strongly condemned Israel's bombing of Beirut.

Sure beats invading Syria and starting WWIII. Just hope this is the beginning of the end of the current mess.

2. More lies and bullshit from the bully of the Middle East
Olmert tells Cabinet he expects campaign to 'take a very long time'

BEIRUT: Israeli Premier Ehud Olmert said Sunday that the current Israeli offensive against Lebanon would "last a very long time," as he addressed a Cabinet meeting Sunday. According to a senior Israeli government official, Olmert said: "The diplomatic process will not come at the expense of destroying infrastructures of terror and this process will take a very long time."

6. What you said is bullshit.
Nasrallh is the bully now, not Olmert. Not only that but Nasrallh has the backing of Syria with all of its new recruits to Hezbollah.

Israel is just trying to save itself. Hezbollah is dedicated to the destruction of Israel and you damn well know that.

is telling the gullible sheep that believe him that he truly wants a peace force, a NATO one at that!

4. Israel's attack on Lebanon has strengthened Hezbollah's hand
and will swell its ranks. It's lost a lot of sympathy worldwide.

Way to go, Chimpy.

9. I wonder what happened?
A few days ago this was not being considered by the Israelis, now it is OK. Was it outside pressure, or just no great desire for a ground war? Maybe the Saudis told Bush they would withhold oil, and he pressured Israel (I know that sounds unlikely for a number of reasons).

10. It's just PR, Olmert told his cabinet today the war will last a long time
Those that defend Israel, even when she engages in the same wars of aggression as Saddam did in Kuwait, won't be able to spin Olmert's own words!

I am reminded of the 1964 brutal murder of Kitty Genovese in Queens, New York, all of her neighbors heard her screams as she was brutally assaulted and murdered, and not one of them bothered to rush to her aid or even call the police.

Lebanon is our Kitty Genovese!

12. Maybe this is the reason?
Seems Hezbollah may be a more formidable enemy then the Israelis expected.

Israel faces fierce battles with Hezbollah

SIDON, Lebanon - Mideast diplomats were pressing Syria to stop backing Hezbollah as the guerrillas fired more deadly rockets onto
Israel's third-largest city Sunday. Israel faced tougher-than-expected ground battles and bombarded targets in southern Lebanon, hitting a convoy of refugees.

Israel's defense minister said his country would accept an international force, preferably NATO, on its border after it drives back or weakens Hezbollah. But his troops described the militants they encountered as a smart, well-organized and ruthless guerrilla force whose fighters do not seem afraid to die.
