Santorum slips behind in new poll; Latest polls put Democrats up two in Se
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 12:51 PM by RamboLiberal
http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Santorum_slips_behind_in_new_poll_0724.html

According to a new poll conducted for the WALL STREET JOURNAL released late Sunday night, incumbent Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) is trailing by nine points behind Democratic contender Bob Casey, Jr.

The poll also gives more good news for Democrats -- Ohio challenger Sherrod Brown continues to poll 8.6 percent ahead of incumbent Sen. Mike Dewine (R-OH).

If the 2006 Senate elections were held today, Democrats would gain two seats, bringing their total to 46. While they would still remain in the minority, the gains could position the party stronger for legislative filibusters -- though rising Pennsylvania challenger Bob Casey holds more middling positions than many party liberals would like. Casey is pro-life.

The poll also gives good news for Democrats in the California gubernatorial race, where Democrat Phil Angelides is leading incumbent Republican governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Angelides, however, leads by just 1.7 percentage points.

3. That's a big lead this close to the election
9 points each is pretty impressive. There are a couple of other races that are trending Dem and a couple of others where the dem challenger is close. It's going to come down to turnout and accurate vote counting. That's why the Repukes keep screeching about "angry bush-haters." That's the base, and an angry base votes. So they're trying to ridicule that base to depress turnout.

11. Casey is eminently electable in this race because
Without trying to be down on his appeal, Casey is a Conservative especially on Social issues reflecting the voters he seeks to represent.

4. Such good news! Only last year, it seemed Santorum & DeWine would
be there forever. Wondrous news concerning California, as well.

Has anyone written what the magic number is to get the Senate back? (I've been too depressed about the Senate for the last 2 years to think about it.)

Thanks for some great news, RamboLiberal.

8. As a former Ohioan, I am absolutely thrilled
at the thought of that useless, worthless, imbecilic idiot DeWine getting his ass kicked out of the senate, where he never should have been in the first place, by Sherrod Brown, who's the best and most genuine progressive anyone could hope to have representing them.

And I can't wait to see "one of the finest minds of the 13th century" Sicky Rantorum get his ass kicked out of the senate as well.

7. Yep! If the WSJ has Casey up 9%, you know it's really more like 15%
Still, Dems need to stomp on the throat of this Republican monster. No quit, no let-up, no over-confidence. Need to work our asses off until the polls close, and then we need to work even harder when the counting's being done.

But recent polling has the race TCTC with an edge to McCaskill.

17. Dems could hopefully pick up: PA, OH, RI, MO, MT, TN, and VA
And retain MN,NE, and FL. If the blue trend continues through election day.

Santorum will lose the election for sure. The rest will be close.

19. They "pull them out" by committing voter fraud. The fix is already in...
I have no doubt that some elections will be flipped based upon a conserted effort to implement voter fraud (vis a vis black box voting).

23. But I thought Santorium was further behind than that...
I still think it's too close to call. While good news, it's still far too early to celebrate. Dems have a lot of work yet to do. The fact that it's still that close means that the scales could tip in either direction.

Why is Santorium even THAT close?? That is so puzzling to me.

And call me paranoid, but something inside tells me that the Repugs don't give a damn about these early polls. They know that the machines are already rigged in their favor. Their only concern is to make it look close, get out their base, and they succeed in stealing yet another election.

We don't need it to be CLOSE, folks. True victory means landslide!

VICTORY=LANDSLIDE!!

As good ole Al Sharpton would say, "MAKE THEM STEAL IT!!"

I simply cannot live in a country that sends him a paycheck every two weeks.

What a vile, sanctimonious, cowardly chickenhawk scum he is.

28. Ahem, make that "Democrats gain FIVE seats"
I don't care what the WSJ polled, but every poll I've seen since early spring shows Burns losing in Montana, recently McCaskill's gaining momentum and leading in Missouri (according to most polling), and Chafee is now trailing Whitehouse in Rhode Island. Add to that, close races in Tennessee (according to the WSJ), and a tightening race in Virginia, I think we have a good shot of regaining the Senate with a one or two vote margin.

31. Some decent news there
It looks like Casey's lead is still solid, which is great. Santorum getting his ass kicked, makes me already want to celebrate.

But I like the idea of taking OH. That would be great. The state is a mess, but I think there's a chance...

And it's nice to nice that the CA race is still close and Arnold not in the lead.

BTW are these the wsj/zogby interactive polls? Those have a strange method and the sampling isn't random.
