Bush: Lebanon a lot like Iraq in struggle for democracy

WHITE HOUSE Iraq wasn't the only part of the Mideast that President Bush and the Iraqi prime minister discussed at today's White House meeting. Israel's battles with Hezbollah forces were also on the table.

Bush likened Iraq to Lebanon, saying both face opponents of democracy. But the president says the ratification of a constitution in Iraq was a "landmark moment" in bringing democracy to the region. He believes Lebanon's government can also succeed, adding that a "key part" of U-S strategy is to support it.

But the president again reiterated he doesn't want a short-term cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah. He insists the "root causes" of the trouble have to be addressed, so that there's a lasting peace.

Bush also stressed that the U-S remains concerned about the loss of innocent lives.

5. Somebody just give blivet a gun, put him on a plane, and let
the fake Texas hardass take care of it.

Or else someone needs to tell him to shut his mouth. Somebody else always has to clean up after his ass. Usually the American taxpayer.

That damn family needs to go find a country that doesn't mind supporting them and their bad habits and failures. Rich man's welfare.

6. LOL "opponents of democracy"
Yeah...one thing they have in common is being invaded by western armies that bomb the shit out of them...that might be a key to why it's a 'struggle'.

Too much...

10. CNN says this gives bush a "second chance to be a peacemaker"
snip>
The Middle East crisis is giving President Bush a second chance to be a peacemaker and, however counterintuitive, an unexpected new chance to make headway on his grand goal of leaving the Middle East more democratic than he found it.

17. Thanks for reminding me why I haven't watched corporate news for a year.
I can't even laugh at the propaganda anymore.

"However counterintuitive" = doublespeak for "no matter how ridiculous our BS sounds, you should believe it."

24. Lebanon has enjoyed democratic institutions fo years
There is a parliamentary system in place, an opposition party that opposes and a free press that is among the most respected in the region.

To hear Bush talk, one would think Lebanon has been governed by Saddam Hussein or Paul Bremer.
