49% Consider Embryonic Stem Cell Research Morally Acceptable
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 04:42 PM by ECH1969
President George W. Bush’s veto last week of legislation that would increase federal funding for embryonic stem cell research marked another milestone in the ongoing debate over the moral and political implications of this emerging field of research.

When asked if they believe that embryonic stem cell research has the potential to produce cures to previously incurable diseases, 70% of those surveyed believe it is likely with 42% saying it is very likely.

Sixty-two percent (62%) of respondents report following the issue of stem cell research closely compared to 34% who say they haven’t been paying close attention and 58% say the issue will play an important role in their decisions when they go to the polls in November. Thirty-five percent (35%) believe the issue will have no bearing on their votes this fall.

Among those who say the issue is very important, 52% believe embryonic stem cell research is morally acceptable and 62% believe this field of research is very likely to lead to medical cures.

1. I happen to think it's higher than 49%.
I'd like to see exactly how they asked the question.

Most of the people I've met who think it's wrong talk about scientists using aborted fetuses, or "embryo farming. I have yet to meet anyone who says they think the in-vitro clinics should just destroy the unwanted embryos instead of donating them to science.

4. I found that "most" of the objectors
concerns are laughable at best. They will not read the bills, the safe gaurds which we craft into the bill, or the first hand experiences of people who have actually seen the procedure. They would rather get their information from Limbaugh and Dubya.
I miss the days when people needed a license to practice medicine. This would be tragically funny if peoples life, no mine, hanged in the balance.
It sucks when your life and death have become a wedge issue.
Kudo's on your reasoning. I think something funny about this as well.

2. Two questions:
1: Of those that disapprove I was wondering if they have ever been to a stem cell lab and have witnessed the procedure from beginning to end?

2: Given the public out cry of the chimps veto I would have speculated that the number would be much higher. Does anyone have any information about who runs "rasmussenreports" and who took the poll.

I am just asking this because I like to all the information that I can have on this because it's not jiving with the other numbers that I am hearing. Of course if polls were accurate Senator Kerry would be in the oval office by now.
Btw thank you for including the link.

3. Better title: Only 26% Believe Embryonic Stem Cell Research Morally Wrong
He was resolute in his decision, but just 26% of American adults believe that embryonic stem cell research is morally wrong. A Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,000 adults taken in the days following the veto reveals that 49% of respondents find the research morally acceptable.

Lots of undecideds here. It is Rasmussen polling, a Republican pollster. Has Zogby done this question?

7. heaven fucking forbid
We can't have cures that will help people with diseases like cancer, or allergies or whatever because our "president" is a neocon bible thumping dipshit that doesn't believe in science because he prolly can't spell the word.

8. But of course! No woman in the stem cell, right? No one to oppress?
Then the self-righteous misogynists have nothing to gain here by trying to obstruct anything. Also, the ones who might otherwise oppose understand that stem cell research can benefit them. And any politicized issue in which choice is up for mutiliation and these assholes are forced to grog that someone might be taking away their rights in any form usually gets the fat, ugly hypocritical anti-choice to check their bullshit until their benefit from the situation is secure. Fat little cowards.
