Hezbollah Chief: Will Now Fire Rockets Beyond Haifa
BEIRUT (AP)--Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said Wednesday that his fighters would now begin firing rockets deeper into Israel, beyond the northern port city of Haifa that has been hit by hundreds of Hezbollah barrages.

Nasrallah, speaking on Hezbollah's al-Manar television, also said Israel would have attacked his forces in southern Lebanon by October, but moved early when his guerrilla forces captured two Israeli soldiers on July 12.

---

"In the new Middle East, there is no place for any resistance movement. The resistance movements in Palestine and Lebanon must be eliminated," Nasrallah said.

4. sorry to poke holes in your thesis...
but these people are not necessarily mentally ill. Describing individuals in power during wartime, whatever their motivations may be, as psychos, sickos, nutjobs, psychopaths, etc. is utterly fallacious.

I am a militant pro-Zionist, and I have my own opinions about these Arab Leaders, but not for one instant do I feel that they're sick in the head, so to speak, anymore than the 'folks' who flew the planes into the towers were 'cowards'.

As a clinician, I am not in the position to daignose these very shrewd, clever, individuals who have risen to the top of their movements through a combination of strength, cunning, knowledge of history, and courage. I would be careful with the mental health rhetoric.

14. anyone who murders civilians -- children, especially -- is sick.
People need to be more "militant" about this definition, and they need to quit letting governments, countries, "resistance" movements -- who the hell ever -- off the hook.

Otherwise, everyone keeps living in the same blood-drenched denial: "Well, it's okay if *we* do it..."

15. Very best post of the day...
...maybe the best I've read here in a long time.

We make a major mistake when we call our opponents deranged, sick or cowardly. Seizing a plane and crashing it into the WTC was not cowardly in any way, shape or form. That took planning, courage and a willingness to die for a cause. Hizbullah fighters facing almost impossible odds against the Israeli military, yet willing to fight to the death, is most certainly not the actions of "cowards".

I oppose Hizbullah as I do al-Queda and militant Islamists across the globe, but we better recognize that these are tough cookies who believe very strongly in their cause - they are not sick, not twisted and not cowardly. While I believe they are sorely mistaken and will be happy to see everything they represent wiped from the face of the earth, these folks are quite sure they are fighting for good, God and a rightous way of life.

Resisting militant Islamists is gonna be one very long, very brutal worldwide fight. At the end of the day, it will be innocent Muslims whom bleed the most at the hands of these fundamentalist fanatics. Very sad indeed.

19. I prefer the term "TERRORISTS" - because that's what they are.
Now, they are continuing to ESCALATE their INDESCRIMINATE targeting of INNOCENT CIVILIAN CENTERS - as they have done all along.

But the apologists will be all doubled into pretzels trying to justify these TERRORISTS - again.

Should be "entertaining" to see all the "excuses".

they are continuing to ESCALATE their INDESCRIMINATE targeting of INNOCENT CIVILIAN CENTERS

...as opposed to Israel's discriminate targeting of innocent civilian centers.

5. Yep. That was interesting.
One can also speculate about why he has waited until now to use the longer range stuff, assuming this threat is carried out, and about what the Israeli response to that will be, should it occur, and so on. I have no real idea, although I do expect he will carry out this threat in some form now, he seems to be following a script or a strategy, and he's been careful to protect his credibility. But I'll bet its a bumpy ride coming up.

7. sounds like a hint.....
That the killing of innocent civilians by one side justifys more killing of innocents for the other side. And, that you can count on this idiocy going on for a long time with many innocents on both sides paying the cost.

25. interesting...and entirely unsubstantiated
Nasrallah says Israel would've attacked in October, offering not a shred of support for the claim, and everyone here seems to think this must be the unvarnished truth? Gimme a break.

Wow, what are these Israeli leaders' thinking?

America should not take sides in this conflict. Let Israel learn a lesson.

16. I wonder exactly why he thinks he's equipped to know
what Israel would or wouldn't be doing by October.

His assertion seems to have been swallowed without explicit questioning by otherwise reasonable people, and that strikes me as strange.

So, to open debate: some possibilities:

(1) He has inside knowledge. (2) He'd have launched some provocation that surely would result in the current level of warfare. (3) He knows of some other incident that would trigger this kind of warfare: perhaps something involving Syria or Iran?

BTW, Ramadan, the month of jihad, starts the night of 9/23. Whether that figures into (2) or (3), or constitutes the "inside knowledge" from (1), I can't imagine. He's a sort of fundie, and I've known fundies to ascribe great importance to holy day dates.
