1. Sailors don't belong in the desert unless they're corpsmen. nt

3. Actually, I don't think SEALs belong in the deser either.
The army's been poaching sailors. We spend hundreds of thousands of dollas training sailors to be submariners, then, next thing you know, they're at Bragg getting three days of rifle training, and they're off to Iraq doing security details...

9. Hey Submariner
How have you been?

No SEALS when I was in. They were UDTs then.

11. Hi Mate
I'm doing fine thanks. I'm going to a Murmansk sub base in a couple of weeks to multibeam/side-scan sonar the fjords for Russian LNG pipelines. I was thinking, gee wouldn't the Navy have loved that intel in the '60s when we we're submerged off their coast spying on their ship/sub movements?

I think JFK authorized the transformation from UDT to SEALS. I was too skinny to attempt any of that Hell Week self-torture.

14. Sounds like an interesting
but very cold job.

In the fifties there was talk of SEAL type outfits. They were to be four man teams. EOD, Language, Communications and a Corpsman.

Underwater Swimmers School/EOD School in the fifties-skinny weaklings were fine just so one could put up with the generous portions of bullshit.

Today even EODs have morphed into steroid fed monsters.

I would never find a home in the new navy I think.

Greatest sub in the navy!

In addition to those you served on, of course...

15. This person was probably a Seabee
The Navy has a Naval Construction Force for building and maintaining military bases around the world. Have you ever seen "John Wayne and the Fighting Seabees"?
