Saddam verdict expected in October
Lawyers gave their closing arguments Thursday for the last two defendants in Saddam Hussein's trial, and the chief judge adjourned the proceedings until mid-October when the ex-president and two top lieutenants could be sentenced to death.

The final two defendants to appear in court for closing arguments were former Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan and Awad al-Bandar, who presided over the revolutionary court that sentenced Shiites in Dujail to death or imprisonment in the crackdown.

4. So the MSM can talk about that for a few weeks before the elections
instead of Iraq, Iran, Israel, unemployment, the deficit, the climate, and the rampant corruption in the WH.

Just another milestone on Rove's calendar.

5. Is anyone really paying much attention to this?
With everyone in Iraq using all their energy just to stay alive and the world's warmongers all keeping their eyes glued to the "shock and awe" playing out in Lebanon, I would expect the interest level reading on the Saddam trial is near zero.

10. Oh you WILL pay attention
Because when that verdict is handed down on October 16 or 17 (you heard it here first), you must be cheering the great triumph by George W. Bush over the hated dictator, Saddam Hussein. Don't you know that Saddam and Satan have a homosexual relationship? He's evil, I tell you! E-e-e-e-evil!

Besides, with wall-to-wall coverage blasting out of every media pore, it will be impossible for Americans to escape the verdict. And the soft-minded folks will be persuaded that it was all thanks to the steadfast vigilance and vigilant steadfastness* of the stalwarts of the Republican party and all its candidates.

*Note from Propaganda Dept.: Too "egghead"; come up with better sound bite explanation -- you have a couple of months.

13. Beg to differ
The wall-to-wall coverage will happen, certainly, but will barely raise a collective yawn out of the general populace.
I predict zero bounce for the repugs.

14. I hope you're right
But if the past is any indication, the GOP will certainly try it again, and companies don't spend billions on advertising because it doesn't work. I hope they've reached the limit on their trips to the well.

17. I'd be surprised if they didn't
televise his execution the night before the elections, and make it available for Pay Per View.

Maybe the Pretzledent himself could pull the lever

12. But you don't publish the papers, or have editorial control of the
television media. THEY will plaster the country with the 'verdict' and not talk about anything else.

SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, lebanon, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, israel, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, afghanistan, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, gas prices, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM, SADDAM...

IMO most Americans' attitude will be "so hang the creep already and be done with it."

11. You mean they will publicly announce the decision
that they made six months before he was captured?

Was there ever any doubt about the outcome of the 'trial'? Not that I could care less what happens to Saddam, but it is disingenuous to the extreme to call this a trial.
