Bush says doesn't want "fake peace" in Lebanon

WASHINGTON, July 27 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said on Thursday he wanted an end to the conflict in southern Lebanon as soon as possible but that he did not want a "fake peace" that would only delay fighting.

Bush's comments, made during a picture-taking session with Romanian President Traian Basescu, reflected the U.S. position that Washington wants a "sustainable" ceasefire that addresses the threat of Hizbollah in Lebanon instead of an immediate ceasefire.

"My goal is exactly what I said it was, and that is to hopefully end this as quickly as possible and at the same time making sure there is a lasting peace, not a fake peace," Bush said.

...

"Look as soon as we can get this resolved, the better, obviously. But it must be real and it can't be fake. And so there's a serious diplomatic effort making sure there is a lasting peace, not a fake peace," he said.

12. Ding, ding, ding! Winner -- Fake peace preferable to real war
The Bush administration is simply setting up the perfect as the mortal enemy of the good. It wants only a "genuine" peace or a "sustainable" ceasefire. Now, how in the world do you distinguish the "genuine" or the "sustainable"? Curiously, our MBA president doesn't provide any metrics that would help us measure this.

But if peace must be "genuine" or a ceasefire must be "sustainable," then the United States has the duty, nay, the God-bestowed obligation to fight against peace or a ceasefire, lest it be anything less than the real thing. We not only should continue with armed hostilities, we have to keep the bullets flying and the bombs dropping, to be sure that any peace or ceasefire isn't counterfeit, as defined by the Bush administration in its sole wisdome and authority.

This is way down the slope of madness, and we're picking up speed.

28. and that links up so well with Cheney's "1% doctrine"
That thing about how if there's even a 1% chance of a threat (initially terrorist WMDs but I believe they're using it more generally now), "we need to treat it as a certainty, not in our analysis or the preponderance of evidence, but in our response". Of course, when he is the one who is defining and assessing it, basically anything that HE says is suspicious goes! Not just an "evidence-free model", as Suskind calls it, but one based on the malice/bias of those in power.

As you put it so well, gratuitous -- they can label something "unsustainable" or "not genuine", and that is the only thing which counts in terms of their response.

6. One Would Think It's Total F'ing Insanity.
Problem is it's not. It's the only thing they can come up with to give the Israeli government more time to kill civilians. It's kind of like school administrators letting two kids duke it out on the playground, all the while saying "We don't want to stop the fight until we're sure it doesn't continue in the class room. It's criminal.

7. The opposite of "lasting peace" is not "fake peace"...it's temporary peace
otherwise known as "cease fire" or "truce" and, in some academic circles, as "diplomacy". None of these provide "lasting peace", though "diplomacy" comes closest.

27. The fool
does not even remotely understand these issues. There is no record in his public life of any genuine displays of intellectual curiosity. It is also quite obvious, simply by listening to him speak, he can barely even read. Add to that mix a brain that has been addled by years of chronic alcoholism, and a far more accurate characterization of George Bush emerges than the one presented by the corporate media. His gibberish is designed specifically for consumption by 10s of millions of Americans who also know nothing about the world, but will nod along in agreement simply because he uses the names of mysterious far away places.

There is virtually no chance of any peace anytime soon. The long term goal of the neocon criminals who control the U.S. government is to make client states of Lebanon and Syria, and subdue Iran with military power, while Israel intends to steal Lebanon's water. It is far more likely the entire region will erupt into a nuclear conflagration in the coming years.

30. another ingredient to the mix ... an endless parade of people telling him
... that he is either too stupid to try to analyze issues (so why bother since he will only be made to look foolish), or that he is above that sort of thing, a "doer" and "decider" not some kind of egghead philosopher, so therefore he has no need of it and should avoid it! It likely started with his mom, and continued with his frat buddies and then Karl Rove.

Even people who are arrogant, impatient, and not intellectually-inclined, can be cajoled into learning, but it takes a great deal of time and empathy (and usually some outside pressure that makes them fear failure, or eager to reap a possible reward). I work with people who teach "problem" students, and they are experienced enough to reach an understanding with them. But Georgie was never put in a situation where this was the only alternative for him.

13. An odd choice of words
and he said it twice! Fake? WTF? Maybe he should focus on stopping buildings and bridges from being reduced to rubble and families from having bombs landing on their cars in the immediate. Peace can come later, but isn't the goal to stop the hostilities and KILLING of civilians? In fact, if he's waiting for peace he can wait another few thousand years because peace hasn't ever been in abundant supply in the ME.
What a lame ass way of trying to cover his backside - he wants Israel to continue but he can't say it so he comes up with this "fake" horse shit. He sounds like a child: "They shouldn't stop bombing since they don't really mean it..."

Syria is supposed to stop this shit. Is that the real "peace" he thinks exists? Save us from this idiot of a stupid ignoramus going about fund raising and yukking it up at G8 because he sensed all those around him were better informed, smarter and possessed far more grace than this white piece of trash could ever hope to have. So, clown around, that oughta make one a real president to be respected, who most likely cannot tell the difference between peace and war at this point. He loves the war part, so anything that is garnered as far as stopping this slaughter, will be deemed, by this stupid jerk, as "fake"

I'm sure that they have to spend HOURS explaining things using very simple analogies ("see, this is how it works"), and Georgie just uses the exact same words and tone of voice with us, because he isn't clued-in or imaginative enough to come up with his own explanation.

By the way, his record for using "see" in a speech is 18 so far -- if anyone notices him using even more, please let www.dubyaspeak.com know! (He used "in other words" 19 times in one January appearance.)
