'Secret' 9/11 lies?2002 exec order let EPA bury info on air hazards
http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/438831p-369566c.html

With New Yorkers already fuming about reports that the feds downplayed the danger of Ground Zero dust, the White House gave EPA chief Christie Whitman the power to bury embarrassing documents by classifying them "secret."

"I hereby designate the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to classify information originally as 'Secret,'" states the executive order, which was signed by President Bush on May 6, 2002.

Although the stated reason for Bush's directive is to keep "national security information" from falling into enemy hands, advocates for thousands of ailing Ground Zero heroes are convinced there's a more sinister motive.

"I think the rationale behind this was to not let people know what they were potentially exposed to," said Joel Kupferman of the New York Environmental Law and Justice Project. "They're using the secrecy thing to cover up their malfeasance and past deceptions.">snip

What national security info could possibly be found at the WTC site? Any thoughts?

3. I'm wondering if the * admin is trying to hide evidence from the
WTC wreckage. That would fall under 'national security' more than toxic dust. I wish someone would leak the actual EPA documents so we could see what they are hiding.

5. I can see the response right now.
The reason that we classified these documents for national security reasons is also classified for national security reasons. That is all.

6. Honestly, I wonder if the United States would be better off with Osama
bin Laden as President. Or Charles Manson. On thing is for sure, George W. Bush is in the same league, he's just as crazy, he loves death and destruction as much, and he's an evil, evil man.

Heaven help us all.

7. I recall this---Whitman!

Whitman, who resigned as EPA chief in May 2003, could not be reached for comment yesterday. In a Newsweek interview that year, she said the White House never told her to lie about the air quality.

However, Whitman conceded that she did not object when words of caution were edited out of her public statements.

"We didn't want to scare people," she said.

9. Whitman is gutless scum
It didn't take a genius to figure out that the WTC smoke was horribly toxic.

People should've been scared....

even with a minuscule of occupational hazard knowledge knew the 911 Tower rubble was toxic.....I knew they were lying all along. It's a medical common sense thing.

18. They may not have standing to sue
There are 'official duties' protections in place. I don't know if the rescue/cleanup workers can sue individuals, but they should be able to sue the EPA.

15. The clean-up and rescue volunteers are now becoming terribly ill
and they are on their own. No agency will help them with their medical needs at all. God have mercy on them. Makes you wonder what kind of country this is. You lend a hand, and they chop of your fingers without so much as a thank you.

19. And now she's doing PR for the nuclear power industry
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=115x61914

"To that end the Nuclear Energy Institute, with the help of Hill & Knowlton, formed something called the Clean and Safe Energy Coalition. To co-chair it the institute hired a pair of environmental consultants, a duet to sing pro-nuclear songs. Christine Todd Whitman, of Whitman Strategy Group (which “can help businesses to successfully interact with government to further their goals,” according to its Web site), and Patrick Moore, of Greenspirit Strategies, were hired for their résumés: Whitman, a former New Jersey governor, is known as the outdoorsy and moderate Republican who ran the Environmental Protection Agency for two years under George W. Bush; Moore was a cofounder of Greenpeace in the 1970s. Part of the thinking, surely, was that the press would peg them as dedicated environmentalists who have turned into pro-nuke cheerleaders, rather than as paid spokespeople."

21. None whatsoever.
The evidence would only prove the obvious, that Bush MIHOP. He's covering his own ass. BTW, one of the first environmental testing firms on the scene, tried to warn workers of the asbestos hazards. They got thrown off the job for telling workers to wear masks w/o EPA permission. Whitman should be on trial for murder.
