Lieberman Leans On Democrat Record
Under Fire Within Party, He Downplays Iraq, Stresses Loyalty

<SNIP>

As al-Maliki was about halfway through his speech, Lieberman's staff sent out a press release trumpeting how the Connecticut Democrat had vigorously opposed legislation - in a debate that ended 16 hours earlier - making it harder for pregnant girls to cross state lines to obtain an abortion without parental consent.

Back in the House chamber, Lieberman applauded much of the prime minister's address. But when al-Maliki was finished, and dozens of lawmakers spilled into the halls to talk to the media, Lieberman was nowhere to be seen.

Spokesman Casey Aden-Wansbury said Lieberman had to make "previously scheduled calls." She would not identify whom he was calling, but said it was "ridiculous" to think the senator or his staff timed the release of the parental consent statement to take attention away from Iraq.

...

But its timing seemed to fit a recent pattern: Joe Lieberman, under attack within his own party, highlights his areas of agreement with his fellow Democrats while publicly avoiding points of contention - particularly on Iraq.

3. Well, the reporter gets it right throughout the story, at least.
Headline guy is the culprit. Good story. The reporter makes sure to lay out all (well, enough of) the facts--and lets the reader conclude how cynical a ploy this is by Lieberman in a last-ditch effort to save his seat.

2. Lieberman is a Democrat.
Edited on Fri Jul-28-06 10:07 AM by calico1
He is falling on his Democratic voting record. (Don't allow Republicans to define us by using their terms for us!)

As to the article, I noticed right away that he was tryiing to highlight his progressive voting record while minimizing his Conservative record. Its not working with me.

5. Lamont is bringing in Shciavo's widower according to NPR

this morning.

Helped me remember how Holy Joe pushed hard w/ the Repugs on the morality of keeping Terry alive and legislative action to do so.

Also, per communication received from Lamont's campaign this morning, with less than two weeks to go, Senator Lieberman is dumping millions of dollars into an elaborate misinformation campaign targeting "low information voters." To complement his desperate television ad campaign, out-of-state and paid "volunteers" go door to door spreading lies and distortions about Ned.

6. Reader Rep. feedback
The link has a reader rep link at the bottom that is easy to use. I asked her if they call Republicans 'Republics'?

I think they need alot of feedback on this.

9. He is the only Democrat to threaten to ignore the will of primary voters
and run as an independent against the Democratic nominee, if HE isn't nominated.

That is enough reason for him to get the boot.

cloture on that extremely anti-Democrat Bankruptcy Reform Bill?

I never did hear his explanation for this, not that there could possibly have been any honest reason for a Democrat to vote for cloture on this issue.
