U.S. Senators Flex Muscles on Wind Power, Radar Issue (Durbin & Obama)
Edited on Fri Jul-28-06 09:57 AM by skids
Dems going to bat for wind power. Good stuff.

Washington, DC (RenewableEnergyAccess.com) U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) announced that they will put a hold on the nomination of Andrew Steinberg to be Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs until the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issues a conclusive determination as to whether the operation of wind farms under construction in the Midwest will interfere with radar systems. A hold has the effect of blocking a nomination.

"The Administration's promised response on windmill construction is long overdue. It is time for a straight answer," said Durbin. "Windmills have become an important source of clean alternative energy throughout the country and are particularly important in the Midwest, which has more cumulative wind energy potential than any other area in the country. If there are real problems, we should find ways to mitigate, reduce or eliminate them, but our wind farm owners deserve an answer today."

...

The Midwest Regional Office of the FAA sent "notice of presumed hazard" letters to wind farm sites that they had determined are in the line of site. The FAA defined "in the line of site" as any windmill within a 60-mile radius of a radar center or radar tower.

By this definition, much of the nation is now in the radar line of site, and this interim policy has had a sweeping effect that has stalled or stopped the development of wind energy facilities across the country, including more than a dozen in the Midwest.

1. does the petroleum lobby run the FAA? blocking wind power which it cannot
manipulate or control? then again, the oil giants will eventually buy out alternative energy companies and gain control.

as if mobil/exxon is gonna dry up and blow away without a fight.

...the coal industry is where to look for the most nefarious anti-alternative activity. The oil companies secretly know their days are numbered and their best bet is to extract profits. The coal industry has much more to lose, as they are not about to run out of anything and really would enjoy the chance to continue poisoning us as the sell us their product.

4. Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!!
What this is all about is the rise of the new power companies. Pig oil (not a typo) has been crowing alot lately about how much oil there still is and that we have plenty for the future.

What these stupid halfwits are also yelling about is that global warming is a myth.

They are grabbing as much money as they can now because they know that the golden days are going end soon.

Regional power and regional needs will be the trend of the future. One type of power maybe great for say Washington state, but then another type of power will be better for Florida.

They can't see that type of concept so they flail around instead.
