Hezbollah rocket hits Israeli hospital

TYRE, Lebanon — Israeli warplanes and artillery attacks Friday hit Hezbollah positions and crushed houses and roads in southern Lebanon, killing up to 12 people. Hezbollah said it fired a new kind of rocket, which landed deeper inside Israel than hundreds of other strikes in 17 days of fighting.

Later Friday, a Hezbollah rocket hit the top floor window of the main hospital in the Israeli border town of Nahariya, causing damage but no injuries, hospital officials said. The rocket shattered a window and scorched its frame.

3. I like that plan but with a simple twist...

Take the violent assholes on both sides, invite them to a stadium then once they're inside, release hungry lions. That way, when you open the gates again only full lions come out. I'm putting this idea in the public domain because I can't come up with the financing myslef...

4. The only positive thing that could possibly come of this is that all

the arnage and suffering broacast with digital clarity throughout the world just might (though its a long shot)make some other country think twice about "war" as a solution. Jesus, how tiny are these rockets? Compare that to Israeli bombs that flatten 6 story buildings in one shot.

10. They're mostly BM-21 models, which have a maximum 40 pound warhead.

Not tiny, but not very large either, at least as such things go. The damage done is very dependent on proximity and position.

The Israelis are probably using 500 and 2000 pound laser-guided bombs for the most part, which produce a much bigger boom.

The "hiding among civilians" myth

Israel claims it's justified in bombing civilians because Hezbollah mingles with them. In fact, the militant group doesn't trust its civilians and stays as far away from them as possible.

Throughout this now 16-day-old war, Israeli planes high above civilian areas make decisions on what to bomb. They send huge bombs capable of killing things for hundreds of meters around those targets to destroy them, and then blame the inevitable civilian deaths -- the Lebanese government says 600 civilians have been killed so far -- on "terrorists" who callously use the civilian infrastructure for protection.

But this claim is almost always false. My own reporting and that of other journalists reveals that in fact Hezbollah fighters -- as opposed to the much more numerous Hezbollah political members, and the vastly more numerous Hezbollah sympathizers -- avoid civilians like the plague. Much smarter and better trained than the PLO and Hamas fighters, they know that if they mingle with civilians, they will sooner or later be betrayed by collaborators -- as so many Palestinian militants have been. "

and I think the bottom line to that is you can't. Both sides claim that God is their champion and neither side will concede. The Shiites want the Jews dead. The Jews want to live.

Bombs and rockets will continue to fall on Lebanon and Israel for as long as this new Axis of Stupidity continues to oppose ceasefires.
