U.S. Earmarks $10 Million for Lebanese Army

The United States will disburse $10 million for the Lebanese army so that it can move into the border zone near Israel currently controlled by the Hezbollah militia, the State Department said July 28.

”We intend to provide $10 million to the Lebanese army,” Tom Casey, a State Department spokesman, told reporters.

The aid is meant to help Lebanon modernize its force by purchasing spare parts for armored personnel carriers and other vehicles needed to patrol the zone, as well communications equipment, Casey said.

1. Compare this to the billions we give Israel every year.
Yeah. That will help Lebanon protect their border.

2. They just have to find a seller for the spare parts.
This is what the Lebanese have for armor

approximately 700 US-made Ford Motor Company M-113 armored personnel carriers
100 US-made M-48 A1/A5 medium tanks
200 Soviet-made T-54/T-55 medium tanks
40 French-made AMX-13 light tanks

The M-113 is a 46 year old design. And can be taken out by an RPG round.

The M-48, named after General George S. Patton, is a Korean War tank.

The T-54/T-55 was originally built in 1947.

The AMX-13 was produced from 1953-1985, it was phased out of service with the French army in the 1970s.

5. I was thinking it was about $5B a month, which is 1 1/4 billion a week
if you do just a bit of math, it comes to right at 2,000 dollars PER SECOND.
So for what we spend in one single minute, we could buy a DAMN NICE HOUSE
for someone somewhere.

I need to find that site again, "cost of war" or something similar that goes into sad details that amplify my little example. Will do some googling.
:-(

6. Here's one site...
http://nationalpriorities.org/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=182

You can also check the cost for your community...and compare to how the money could be spent on health care, education, etc.

8. The US should stop sending weapons to the Middle East
Sending weapons to the Middle East is like giving gasoline and matches to pyromaniacs.
