(That headline almost makes it sound like Humanitary relief aid, but we know better than that)

Bush sends Rice to Mideast, backs multinational force for Lebanon

28/07/2006 23h17

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush sent Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice back to the Middle East to win support in Beirut and Jerusalem for quickly deploying a UN-backed force to Lebanon.

Bush and visiting British Prime Minister Tony Blair said after talks at the White House that they would seek a UN Security Council resolution next week to get a multinational stabilization force into southern Lebanon.

The two leaders refused to call for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, locked in bloody conflict for nearly three weeks, saying a more comprehensive solution was necessary.

"This is a moment of intense conflict in the Middle East. Yet our aim is to turn it into a moment of opportunity and a chance for a broader change in the region," said the president.

6. I think those are to use as "bullet points," but I've never found any...
...way to use them here.

Actually, I don't think I've ever even used a bullet point outside of either.

7. Yesterday, we were hearing "what are U.N. observers doing in a war zone?"
Edited on Fri Jul-28-06 09:23 PM by daleo
In regards to the 4 U.N. observers that were killed by the Israeli bombing of the U.N. base. This was what Stephen Harper, the Canadian P.M. was saying (one of the peacekeepers killed was Canadian). He represents the neo-conservative position on these matters quite well.

Now, a U.N. "stabilization force" is suddenly in vogue once more. I guess the belligerents have decided that continuing the fighting would be futile, so the U.N. is useful again. For a while.
