washington • The Bush administration spelled out plans yesterday to sell $4.6bn of arms to moderate Arab states, including battle tanks worth as much as $2.9bn to protect critical Saudi infrastructure.

The announcement came two weeks after the administration said it would sell Israel its latest supply of JP-8 aviation fuel valued at up to $210m to help Israeli warplanes “keep peace and security in the region.”

The United States also rushed a delivery of precision-guided bombs requested by Israel after launching its airstrikes against Hizbollah fighters in Lebanon 17 days ago, The New York Times reported last week.

In the newly proposed sales to Arab states, UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter gunships worth up to $808m would go to the United Arab Emirates, while AH-64 Apache helicopters worth as much as $400m would go to Saudi Arabia.

1. And so it goes..
We sell arms to the ME, they send our kids to play army.
They bleed and die in a monopoly battle. We grieve, we
beg to end it all. The smiling president waves us on once more
reminding us how great our democracy is- Insanity!

This practice should be outlawed.

3. Our way of life has been hijacked by the Federalists..
It's an old saw, but the signers of the Constitution endured the same issues.
They created the Bill of Rights to protect personage from corporate greed
overthrowing our sovereign rights. Their foresight included never allowing the
federal government to be so powerful it would usurp the power of the states.
I guess we'll have to travel back wards to recapture the respect for the
freedoms afforded by birth to each and every citizen. It can only be done one
state at a time. We begin by getting rid of every republican governor.

4. Keep those wars going! Keep our economy afloat.
Why anyone would look to the US for leadership in the Middle East is beyond me. WE are the biggest part of the problem.

6. That is one of the worst things about this whole war
We can spend billions making these weapons but instead of giving them to our troops we just sell them for a profit to some other nation. Our troops could be dressed to the nines in top of the line equipment, but no, we have to make our profit.

7. " $2.9bn to protect critical Saudi infrastructure" what about protecting
and rebuilding NOLA's infrastructure. That city remains in shambles. How can we justify this?

10. This is so obscene that defies description
The last thing the Middle East needs is more weapons! This is like providing a pyromaniac with a can of gasoline and matches.

11. Meanwhile, Iran gives Hezbollah 100 million in aid and the M$M
makes a big deal out of it. The usual hypocritical BS from the BFEE...no surprise here. :eyes:
