Queens Power Mess: Questioning Hil's visit
July 29, 2006

Mayor Michael Bloomberg's top aides are privately fuming over Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's post-blackout visit to Astoria on Friday.

Administration officials blew a fuse after Clinton stepped before the cameras Thursday to call for federal disaster relief - a step Bloomberg has already rejected as unnecessary and unlikely to succeed.

"The application isn't worth its weight in paper," a Bloomberg aide, who asked not to be identified, told Newsday.

City Hall staffers were also annoyed that Clinton toured the neighborhood days after the crisis had been resolved, said people familiar with the situation.

"Where was she Monday and Tuesday when all of this was going on?" asked another administration official, who requested anonymity.

I really don't get where Bloomberg is coming from with this? You would think he would do everything he could to help his constituents in Astoria but he seems to think being without electric for over 10 days is no big deal?

2. Bloomberg has not done a damn thing for NYC...but no Mayor would
have been able to get a dime from Bush since NYC would never vote for him..but a "converted" Dem, transplanted from Boston is even lower on the list than most.

But, truth be told, Bloomberg is just as big an opportunist as all the others. His interests are with big business...not the tax paying public.

I did not vote for him...and never would.

3. He's really shown the world his asshole
on this one.

I grew up in Astoria. I can't imagine being in those apartments in July with no AC, fans, hot water, food....

I'm surprised Barbara Bush didn't show up in Astoria Park to tell everyone how much better off they are to be able to sleep outside.

5. This is the first kind of weird thing Bloomberg has done.

His reaction has been different than his normal behavior. He usually empathetic and hands on. In this case, he's been kind of alouf.
