6 killed in latest New Orleans shootings

By MARY FOSTER, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 31 minutes ago

NEW ORLEANS - Three brothers and a friend were killed in a neighborhood not far from the French Quarter, and two other people were gunned down in separate incidents hours later, authorities said Saturday.

Police found a 31-year-old man lying in the middle of a Central City street with multiple gunshot wounds, officer Garry Flot said late Saturday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the sixth slaying in the city in 24 hours.

The shootings were the latest round of killings as the city struggles to rein in drug- and gang-related violence that has shadowed the recovery from Hurricane Katrina.

In mid-June, Gov. Kathleen Blanco sent the Louisiana National Guard and state police to New Orleans to help fight crime there after five teenagers were shot to death in a single attack.

1. "So that's a Glock 9"
Letter From New Orleans
I read this article a couple weeks ago and it's a pretty depressing view of what is going on there.

"My neighborhood was surrounded today.

By the same Humvees, troops and large-caliber machine guns that surround villages in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Roadblocks were put in position across streets, and men in camouflage helmets and bulletproof vests have started searching house-to-house.

The worst part is, I welcome it.

For the last months, increasingly large gangs of feral animals from across America have begun to congregate here in New Orleans, knowing how easy it is to hide among mile after mile of crushed, abandoned, open homes. The word is out that the New Orleans Police Department is in disarray.

The word is correct. "

3. Just a few days ago, I read that during Katrina, security forces
from Mossaud were brought into NOLA to control those "negroes." I am wondering if anyone else heard this?

Some bodies as we know were so decomposed that it was impossible to tell how they had died.

5. BW was one of many
They also had DynCorp, The Steele Foundation, Intercon, American Security Group, Wackenhut, and ISI. The media wanted us to think it was poor black people firing MP5s. Some of us knew better.

7. if you can afford to get out -- get out
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 08:59 PM by pitohui
that's the best advice i would give to that writer or to anyone

if we could afford to, we'd be out of here in a heartbeat

the national guard won't stay here forever, already blanco is applying for an extension to ask them to stay longer, but we will need them for years and they ain't hanging around for years, nobody joins the guard to do gang warfare

the human predators have targeted this city and while people are worried about what is politically correct or whether the guy's honest comments are phrased nicely enough to suit them, young black men are being gunned down pretty much every day

-- and not by "blackwater" -- i wish people would stop being silly -- some people think this is a video game and don't realize that real people w. real lives are at stake here
