3. Rice unwelcome before ceasefire: Lebanon
<snip>

"Lebanon told U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Sunday that it could not meet with her before a ceasefire ends a 19-day-old Israeli offensive, Lebanese officials said.

The officials said Rice, who was due in Beirut later on Sunday, was informed of the Lebanese position after an Israeli airstrike killed more than 40 civilians in south Lebanon.

They said Rice's visit to Beirut has been canceled."

Seems Condi's been saying just 'ceasefire, soon, as per original conditions/plan' (though maybe she was wobbling?).

11. They probably saw the news about Qana...
someone better begin to listen to the terror that is going on in Lebanon. I'm watching them pulling body after body of Lebanese refugees out of a destroyed building (on CNN)...tiny little bodies, in their jammies, old people, women.

Someone is going to pay for outrages like this.

Precision-guided indeed.

And the press is there, this time.

22. They were setting up a PA system & the crowd was cheering & jumping...
just before they cut to Ms. Rice's press conference. The Lebanese Prez said on CNN that there was no place for Condi in Beirut. When the commentator asked why, he said they were crying in Lebanon this morning, that they had been screaming for a cease-fire for weeks, that now it was time for the UN to investigate the destruction of the refugee building in Qana, that war crimes had been committed against his country. Condi...I don't think so!

around 500 still-angry people gathered outside now, security people apparently having brought the situation under control...

edit: BBC journalist on the spot now hesitates to confirm the ransacking, burning above (but there was smoke, he says).

Speaker of Lebanese Parliament leading efforts to calm down the crowd; A Hezbullah spokesman tells people they can protest, peacefully, on the streets, but should avoid violence and should refrain from attacking the UN.

Seems to me that Israel would be nothing but pleased by the angry reaction against the UN to their continuing slaughter of innocents in Lebanon, as well.

Fearless Leader and his cronies aren't protecting Israel. He provoked Olmert into this action to precipitate an overwhelming response by Arab and Muslim states. The Xtian Zionist agenda on the march. I call them Xtians because they are not Christians, just crazies under the guise of Christianity. They tried provoking Sharon, but he was getting 'soft' in his old age and now that he's 'out of the way', it's full steam ahead.

A man screams for help as he

UN stormed amid fury over Qana bombing

Sunday 30 July 2006, 13:35 Makka Time, 10:35 GMT

Lebanese media reported that dozens of people remained trapped inside the three-storey building. Some of them had fled the Israeli bombardment of the Lebanese coastal town of Tyre.

Yasir Abu Hilala, Aljazeera's correspondent in Qana, said aid workers had pulled out only three people alive.

Efforts to get the wounded to hospital have been hampered as all roads around Qana have been destroyed by Israeli air strikes, he said.

The Israeli army has rejected responsibility for the deaths, saying that Hezbollah bore the blame because it used the village as a site for launching rockets.

However Hasan Fadlallah, a Hezbollah MP, told Aljazeera that Israel had committed "a new massacre".

Yes Hizbollah kidnapped two soldiers right smack on the border of Lebanon.......That hardly qualifies for as an attackon Israel. Israel fired the first bombs and they were right at innocent civilians.

42. Nice try..
"Yes Hizbollah kidnapped two soldiers right smack on the border of Lebanon"

No, Hizbullah launched a sophisticated cross border raid, killed Israeli soldiers and kidnappped two others. None of this "smack on the border of Lebanon" nonsense. Hizbullah launched an offensive operation across the border and thus sparked this conflict.

What Hizbullah did does infact constitute an attack on Israel as it is an act of war.
