Rice believes can forge Lebanon truce this week
US secretary of state says ceasefire to end fighting between Israel, Hizbullah could be forged this week. 'I have been deeply grieved by tragic losses we have witnessed, particularly of children,' she notes

"US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Monday expressed her satisfaction with Israel's decision to halt its aerial activity for 48 hours.

Speaking at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, Rice said she believed a ceasefire to end fighting between Israel and Hizbullah guerrilla group in Lebanon could be forged this week.

"This morning, as I head back to Washington, I take with me an emerging consensus on what is necessary for both an urgent ceasefire and lasting settlement. I am convinced we can achieve both this week," she told reporters in Jerusalem.

Rice said she would call for a UN resolution this week on the ceasefire and also the establishment of an international stabilization force for Lebanon."

1. 'bout time she woke up; it's been going on for weeks
Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 01:09 AM by ShockediSay
only difference is Israel can't beat Hezbollah per expectations

and are taking their lumps militarily

still nothing compared to the civilian losses in Lebanon

it's getting to be like anything she says is "forged"

6. She didn't just wake up
The world said enough of this and said they wouldn't take any more. The pics of the innocent dead call every conscience to answer. Unless you're a bushbot who think every Muslim death, regardless of age, is a cause for celebration.

7. She talks about birth pains?
Did she ever experience them? We need to rid our country of this warmongering aristocracy and their sheeple following forever.

16. Dog whistle politics
The "birth pangs" locution was drawn directly from Revelation 12, and was meant to signal to the loony end-timers that all this was proceeding according to God's plan as executed (no pun intended) by George W. Bush. Curiously, wrapped up as they are in biblical symbolism, they never quite draw the connection between, say, George W. Bush and Revelation 13.

But back to reality: Now Dr. Rice is claiming that she's gonna get a ceasefire going, just a day after Ambassador Bolton said there wasn't gonna be no ceasefire. Oh well, the message of the day (or the hour) has been issued, and the faithful stenographers of the Fourth Estate will report it without a trace that there's any contradiction whatsoever.

14. Rice is completely clueless and in way over her head. I don't know how
she got the reputation for being a foreign policy whiz in the first place. Her training was very narrow and restricted pretty much to the Soviet Union - which no longer exists.

Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 08:44 AM by LeftHander
The US should be demanding that Israel stop. And force Hezbollah and Israel to the table.

Instead of this "lasting peace" bullshit. Lastimg peace mean nothing more than "go ahead bomb the shit out of them"...

19. Sorry, ain't going to happen
Israel is already stating this morning that they're going to be pounding Lebanon for another ten-fourteen days, therefore no cease fire this week. And hell, it's not like we can believe that Israel would keep a cease fire, look how long they kept to this "suspension of bombing":eyes:
