Harris Workers Saw 'Classified' Document
Harris Workers Saw 'Classified' Document

By KEITH EPSTEIN The Tampa Tribune

Published: Aug 5, 2006

WASHINGTON - A document at the center of Rep. Katherine Harris' efforts to secure a $10 million defense contract for a big campaign donor has been seen by three of her employees - despite Harris' claims it cannot be made public because it is "classified."

Former campaign manager Glenn Hodas said he was one of the three, and that none of them had security clearance, raising a question about whether the Longboat Key congresswoman is freer to share the document than she asserts - or whether she impermissibly allowed advisers access to sensitive government secrets.

"We were all set to release it. Her lawyer said OK. But then she said, 'Oh, we can't - it's classified,'" Hodas, Harris' third and most recent campaign manager, recalled Thursday.

Hodas quit in mid-July after discovering Harris had received a grand jury subpoena for campaign e-mail and documents relating to defense contractor Mitchell J. Wade and his company MZM Inc., and withheld the fact from him.

That "classified" information doesn't sound too classified...

I think it was moved because of the subject line.

4. there's a specific legal process for classification, u cant just say it is
and it costs the government $448 a page to do it.. and consider that the white house classifies..EVERYTHING ..even the dinner menu, that is just f'n paranoia.

9. I used to just stamp the document
with the appropriate classification and write my badge number in the space provided...I didn't think a few microliters of red ink was that expensive.

The new Fearless Leader cost-saving agenda......

11. i am talking about a potential court document being denied to the court
because the defendant who obviously committed a crime says it is classified to protect her sorry despicable ass, she doesn't have a badge number...

13. I was just trying to point out how easy it is
Anyone with the authority to classify documents can arbitrarily do so based on their judgement. I doubt if Harris has the authority to do so.

5. Dear Katherine...
Don't bother to host a victory party. You will need the money for your defense fund.

can I just say, "You can't see it... it's 'classified,' and so is that open container of alcohol."

Besides, when I got my driver's license, I attached a signing statement saying I could violate certain motor vehicle laws in the interests of National Security.
