LONDON (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Tony Blair held talks on Sunday with President Bush, Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Jacques Chirac on diplomatic efforts to end the war in Lebanon, officials said.
"The prime minister has had long phone conversations with Bush and with Putin about how to secure the maximum support for the U.N. resolution (on Lebanon) and to get agreement as soon as possible to that resolution," a spokesman for Blair said.
The flurry of diplomacy came as U.N. Security Council envoys in New York tried to put the finishing touches to a resolution drafted by France and the United States calling for a halt to fighting and setting terms for a settlement.
Efforts to end the 26-day-old war suffered a setback on Sunday when the Lebanese government rejected the draft U.N. resolution and 12 Israeli soldiers and 19 Lebanese civilians were killed in attacks.
