Bomb wounds U.S. soldier in Afghanistan

By NOOR KHAN, Associated Press Writer Sun Aug 6, 9:49 AM ET

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Afghan and NATO forces aided by air strikes killed 17 Taliban in southern Afghanistan, and in a neighboring province a U.S. soldier received minor injuries when a small truck exploded near a military convoy, officials and eyewitnesses said Sunday.

<snip>

Highway police commander Mohammad Anwar described the attack as a suicide bombing.

NATO-led troops have suffered eight fatalities since they took over control of security in southern Afghanistan from the U.S.-led coalition July 31. American-led troops still operate in the area and it was unclear who controlled the convoy. A Canadian military spokesman said none of that country's troops were involved.

The attack took place in the same province where five Canadians were killed Thursday. Their bodies were due to arrive in Canada late Sunday.

1. How costly is using this kind of weaponry to kill 17 "suspected"
Edited on Sun Aug-06-06 07:13 PM by jpkenny
terrorists? It seems to me that we and Israel both use some mighty expensive stuff just to kill a few actual terrorists and kill hundreds of civilians. I bet we could have offered about 10 million to have gotten Saddam out of Iraq within 3 months. Hell, he may have even taken the payment. I also believe that we could have offered the warlords, early in the game, several million to have them turn in Osama and stablize their own country. It would also have been less costly in lives and dollars for Israel to have sat at the table with Hizbollah, negotiated release and exchange of prisoners at a time when both sides had less to avenge. What foolish leaders people put their trust in.

I agree with you..I honestly think if we would have given the CIA more latitude they could have gotten Saddam out of Iraq....and Osama definitley could have been taken out withought a war.....

They wanted war....they wanted obscene profits....they are criminals!! If they are not held accountable by the US the Hague will hold them accountable!!

3. Can we count on the Hague to hold them accountable?
How, when the US simply ignores international law unless it is of benefit to the US?
