CNN/AP: Astronaut Glenn, wife leave hospital
Ex-senator, 85, suffered minor fracture in car accident
Sunday, August 6, 2006

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Former senator and astronaut John Glenn and his wife, Annie, were discharged Sunday from a hospital where they had been recovering from what he called a "very serious" car accident.

"I do not recommend you go test your air bags the way we did the other night," Glenn said.

Neither Glenn nor his wife was seriously injured, said Dr. Paul Beery. Beery said the former senator suffered a minor fracture in his sternum....

Annie Glenn, 86, is recovering from what her husband called "bumps and bruises."

The Glenns were returning home late Friday from a fundraiser for gubernatorial candidate Ted Strickland, when John Glenn tried to make a left turn onto a highway ramp, said his former press secretary, Dale Butland....

9. Just too bad.......

Glenn had a problem with women astronauts. Don't think actively trying to denigrate women makes one a great citizen.

10. How old was he at the time, and what was the prevailing wisdom?
The US Air Force wasn't exactly the most progressive organization at the time.

8. Thank goodness!
I'm so glad to hear they're improving. They're both such a treasure. I'm somewhat familiar with the area, it can be confusing, especially at night, even for an old fighter pilot.

I was fortunate enough to meet him at a fundraiser during the Clinton years and knew enough to get him talking about flying - his favorite topic. I could have listened for hours.
