Family of abducted soldier asks Jewish community for help

CHICAGO - For Karnit Goldwasser, Hezbollah's abduction of her husband, Ehud, on Israel's northern border last month threw life into a continuous loop that will start each morning and end each night the same way until he returns.

"I can't measure the time that has passed since the moment he left," said Goldwasser, 30, in an interview Sunday. "Time stopped for us. ... Now when I wake up in the morning, I need to achieve the same thing. I need to achieve my husband."

On Sunday, Karnit and Shlomo Goldwasser, the wife and father, respectively, of one of three Israeli soldiers now in captivity, appealed to members of the Chicago Jewish community to help bring Ehud home and plead for a sign of life. Funded by United Jewish Communities, an umbrella organization for American Jewish federations, their tour includes additional stops in New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.

...

Karnit Goldwasser does not want the fighting to continue. But she also wants to see her husband again.

1. I don't understand this....
Is the family of the kidnapped soldier doing a publicity tour in the US? Don't they have something better to do?

There is no one in the US public that can get their family home safely. This is a stunt aimed at garnering sympathy and it's disgusting.

2. actually they are going around the world
They were in France, and UK last week, and met with officials in both countries. They are trying to see their son/husband again.

3. I would sell myself to satan to get a family member back from this.
I have nothing but sympathy for a grieving family. Imagine their grief and put all else aside. As I cut slack for the parents of dead soldiers who can't get past the flag in their misery, so I cut slack for them. they are as helpless as the rest of us, poor things.

6. I would to. But their son is in Lebanon, not the USA and there is
nothing they can do over here to get him back.

This is nothing more than a publicity stunt by AIPAC. That's what bothers me.

These people are being used (or allowing themselves to be used) to further the Israeli cause.

7. ....
:eyes:

They are meeting with leaders that can make a difference. Everything just is one big AIPAC/Israeli conspiracy to you, isn't it?!

9. The family is grieving and they want their...
loved one back. Why would you think that's a stunt? I hope you are never in a similar situation and have an ignorant person insensitively question your motives.

I find your response disgusting.

4. I want to see Ehud Goldwasser back home with his family, his wife,
his 3 cats, and his dog. We need a ceasefire now, followed by a prisoner swap!

8. Good for them. Now how about leaders call a ceasefire and get them home.
Edited on Mon Aug-07-06 03:41 AM by w4rma
Leaders need to quit stalling so that they can kill just a few more people and destroy just a few more homes, bridges, powerplants (oh wait every single powerplant in Lebanon is destroyed now), before the inevitable ceasefire.

10. Right.
If I were them, I'd be a thorn in the Israeli government's side.
