MILITARY police investigating the death of Private Jake Kovco prepared in advance large parts of witness statements that were later signed by members of the dead soldier's unit in Iraq.
One of those soldiers yesterday told a military board of inquiry these statements falsely claimed the unit had orders in place to prevent soldiers carrying loaded guns around the Australian embassy in Baghdad.
Soldier 14 - whose name has been withheld - said he had never been given such orders, which had not even been written at the time of the fatal shooting.
He told the inquiry into Kovco's death that large parts of his statement were "objectionable" and "did not accurately reflect" what he told military police.
