Apple execs hire lawyers as options probe proceeds
http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?RSS&NewsID=15500

Apple executives are hiring lawyers as the company's stock options debacle continues.

The news emerges as Apple CEO Steve Jobs faces further enquiries following revelations that two senior executives at his one-time other company, Pixar, were also granted share options in a way that maximised their value.

John Lasseter, the creative director behind Toy Story and Monsters Inc, and Pixar's president Edwin Catmull, were granted options just as Pixar shares hit a low point.

The Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating 80 companies amid suggestions that executives "routinely and illegally backdated the options to a low point in the shares," reports The Independent. However, the report also confirms that there is no evidence that the timing of these grants was "anything more than a coincidence".

7. not despite but regardless
there is a difference

i will buy the bluest blue or the reddest red company (not that most companies can be defined politically, and even if a founder of a company is insanely left or rightwing, it doesn't follow that a company in that case is either)

iow, i invest based on the stocks potential to make money, not the politics of the company

i loathe cigarettes with every fiber of my soul, but i have invested in altria

for example

in trading, i ignore fundamentals almost entirely and go for technical analysis (quant and supply/demand inbalances mostly) and i do this with futures (for the massive leverage)

but with investing (to contrast with trading) i use much more fundamental analysis and often buy good companies on unjustified weakness

great buy opp for PIXR was when they came out with those "dissapointing" incredibles dvd sales last year and it dunked

great entry point

Once they're outside of California, their money turns into sand.
