GOP official says Nelson should pay all tax to '98

Three years' worth of back property taxes from Democrat Ben Nelson is not good enough for some Republicans.

John Strawn, chairman of the Sarpy County GOP, called on Nelson to pay back taxes on his Platte River hunting cabin for an additional four years.

Nelson has been asked to pay back property taxes on the property after the county assessor determined it did not deserve a special tax reduction reserved for agricultural land. Nelson has said he will pay an estimated $14,000 in back taxes plus interest.

State law allows the county to go back only three years to recover property tax revenue on land wrongly placed in the state's greenbelt program.
