Lieberman Kicks Off Go-It-Alone Campaign

Lieberman Kicks Off Go-It-Alone Campaign

(AP) WATERBURY, Conn. Stripped of support from the Democratic Party and working with a new campaign staff, Sen. Joe Lieberman kicked off his independent bid for re-election Thursday with a planned visit to this gritty city that last year re-elected a mayor who also lost his party's primary.

Lieberman's late-morning visit to a Waterbury pizza joint — his first public appearance since losing Tuesday's primary and his first since dismissing his campaign staff — was to thank Waterbury for its fervent support during the primary. Lieberman won 60 percent of the vote here in his narrow loss to anti-war candidate Ned Lamont.

...

Lieberman hopes for the same fortune. Although top Senate Democrats, including John Kerry and Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, Harry Reid of Nevada, Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey and Chuck Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, are throwing their support to Lamont, Lieberman filed petitions Wednesday to mount an independent campaign.

"While I consider myself a devoted Democrat, I am even more devoted to my state and my country," Lieberman said in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday, a day after his stunning loss. "I think it would be irresponsible and inconsistent with my principles if I were to just walk off the field."

3. Lieberman continues to do everything in his power to hurt the Democratic
Party and the people of the United States. He has already been kicked out of the Dem party because of his disloyalty. Now, he hopes to divide Democrats in Conn. What a jerk!

8. Joe-Speak Translator:
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 12:00 PM by mikeytherat
Original:
"While I consider myself a devoted Democrat, I am even more devoted to my state and my country," Lieberman said in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday, a day after his stunning loss. "I think it would be irresponsible and inconsistent with my principles if I were to just walk off the field."

Translated:
"Although I am a 'man of the people,' when the people spoke I didn't like what they said. So, fuck 'em, I'm running anyway because I am the only hope you people have, even though your votes say otherwise."

Simpler Translation:
"You peons really fucked up, and only I, Holy Joe, can save you from your disastrous participation in our democracy."

Hubris, thy name is Joe.

13. Well at least the damage Joe is doing....
he's doing to himself now, and not the party. I never could figure out why Joe was always the go-to guy for talkshows and speaking engagements on behalf of the democratic party. He hasn't represented us since he went back to the senate after the 2000 sElection.

Now when Joe speaks, he's speaking for "Joe" & not the party. I hope it doesn't take him as long as it's taken some others to figure out that he's just irrelevant now.

15. Harry Reid needs to strip LIEberman of all of
his appointments. He's no longer a Democrat thus he's no longer a senior Democratic senator.
