Iran urges foreign forces to leave Iraq after Najaf attack
TEHRAN (AFP) - Shiite Iran has called for foreign troops to leave war-torn Iraq following a deadly bombing near one of Shiite Islam's holiest shrines in the southern city of Najaf.

"The only way to create security in Iraq is to end the occupation by foreigners who have so far failed to bring about security," foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi was quoted as saying by the official news agency IRNA.

Iraqi police said an attacker detonated an explosive vest at a police checkpoint in Najaf, close to the tomb of Imam Ali, one of the most revered figures of the Shiite faith, killing 35 and injuring dozens more, including Iranians.

Asefi said the "brutal" attack was aimed at "weakening the Iraqi government and dividing Sunni and Shiite brothers".

1. Of course they want us to leave......
they want their "Iraqi"(a British-invented term when they Imperialized the region in the 20s) Shia(a.k.a. Iranian) militas to take power and carry out Sunni ethnic cleansing throughout Iraq.

It doesn't really matter. As soon as we pull out after Bush leaves office the Shia will take over and impose Islamic law over the country and we'll have a nasty civil war on our hands.

4. Sunni and Shia Islam
Comparison of Sunni and Shia Islam

There are two main sects in Islam: Sunni and Shi'ite. Sunni Islam is the largest denomination, although in some countries it is a minority.

Sunnis have their historical roots in the majority group who followed Abu Bakr, an effective leader, as Muhammad's successor, instead of his cousin and son-in-law Ali. The Sunnis are so named because they believe themselves to follow the sunnah or "custom" of the Prophet. Shi'ites are those Muslims who followed Ali, the closest relative of Muhammad, as Muhammad's successor.

Sufi Islam is not exactly a sect, but the mystical expression of Islam. It is therefore not included in the chart below. Sufism might be compared to Christian monasticism, in that both emphasize a quiet, simple life focused on obeying and experiencing God. Opinions of Sufis differ within the Muslim community.

The following chart compares the similarities and differences between the major Islamic sects. Please note that, as with all charts of this kind, information is generalized and should not be used as the only basis of information.

5. And Who Do We Have To Thank For Destabilizing The Region?
The consensus opinion among foreign policy experts is that Iran is the winner of the Iraq invasion.

Why did the GOP:

- Ignore the professional military and foreign policy experts that Iraq was contained and an invasion of such could bring destabilization to the region.

- Ignore the professional military planners calls for 500k+ troops to maintain stability following an invasion.

- Ignore the foreign policy professionals advice on how to restructure the country during re stabilization following an invasion.

- Implemented an incompetent carpetbagger administration (CPA) resulting in minimal reconstruction being completed leading to a disaffected and angry populace ripe for recruitment into extremist organizations.

- Promote, cooperate with and place into a position of power a known agent for Iran (Chalibi).

- Perpetuated propaganda against the citizens of the United States regarding the conduct of the occupation.

- Prevented any Congressional oversight of the occupation.

As apparent from the list of above charges, the GOP is not only incompetent, but are guilty of high treason.

And 'stay the course' is not a plan. We have two choices:

- Leave.

- Stay and field an Army of 700k to 1M to attempt to stabilize the country. Yes, that means a draft.

And the first drafted should be registered GOP voters, since it was their incompetence that brought us to this sorry state after all.

12. But... but.... It's all Worth it 'cuz Saddam tried to kill AWOL's poppy
"...there's no doubt his hatred is mainly directed at us," Bush said at a political fundraiser in Houston, Texas. "After all this is the guy who tried to kill my dad."

As Bush's father, former president George Bush, travelled to Kuwait in April 1993, officials there disrupted a car-bomb plot they said they traced back to Saddam. The plot was aimed at Kuwait's emir and the former president, officials said.

Then-US president Bill Clinton cited the plot as justification for a June 1993 US missile attack on Baghdad's intelligence headquarters.

Bush had also referred to that US charge in his September 12 address to the UN General Assembly, but had deliberately referred only to "a former American president." Aides said Bush was taking pains to avoid personalising the issue.

That's why.

(Plus the oil & arms profits for his CEOs, of course.)

Lil' AWOL knows too well he's gonna get away with it all, so why would he even bother?

7. "we'll have a nasty civil war "
Actually no. They might have a nasty civil war, but we won't. That's the point. It is none of our damn business.

8. That's what I meant.....
what I mean't be "we" was that we'll have a nasty civil war on our hands. It'll de-stablize the entire fucking region and it could lead to WW3.

11. US and UK should get the hell out of Iraq
If you are worried about Iran, put the Baathists back in power, but still get the hell out.

We should also stop arms sales to the region!

3. I agree completely with Mr. Asefi. The absolute best thing for
all Iraqis would be the withdrawal of the Occupiers. We should pay compensation for our stupidity, but from a distance. US out of Iraq! (And Britain, too)
