The chief executive of British Airways has blamed Heathrow airport for flight cancellations after a terror alert.
Willie Walsh said the British Airports Authority, which runs Heathrow, was not adequately handling the increased security precautions after police foiled an alleged plot to blow up planes in mid-air.
The airline said it would be forced to cancel 25 per cent of its short-haul services on Saturday, and 10 long-haul flights, because of security delays. Heathrow was expected to be the worst-affected airport.
Mr Walsh said: "BAA is unable to provide a robust security search process and baggage operation at London Heathrow and as a result we are being forced to cancel flights.
"The airport's baggage system cannot process all of the passengers' bags.
