Katrina Recovery remains slow
"Those who choose to return do so in spite of the city's broken infrastructure, which a year later remains in tatters: Nearly 60 percent of homes and business are still not receiving electricity or heating gas. Only three out of nine New Orleans hospitals have reopened. Only 56 of 128 public schools will enroll students this fall."

1. its going to be slow going. Rome wasn't built overnight.
And with this administration its going to take a while to get anything untangled. If they had wanted to do it right, they would have sent massive crews to clean up and restore power and gas.. then at least with the rubbish gone, they could try to go forward with city planning. Unfortuately, there are massive areas of reckage that just need cleaning up.

2. That's more like non-existent than slow.
I'd heard things were still really bad down there. Bush and Company should be sued for malignant neglect.

4. I was down there in June and it is pathetic. I tell everyone I can
get to listen. Why do we let these predators get away with this? It is time to change course. But in the short term we need to constantly bombard our reps with complaints about their ineptitude. It isn't right for our citizens to have to live like that.
