GOP Raises Specter of 'Speaker Pelosi'

CASHIERS, N.C. (AP) - Facing a strong re-election challenge from Democrat Heath Shuler, veteran Republican Rep. Charles Taylor is going after a candidate who gets an "F" from the National Rifle Association and a perfect score from a leading abortion-rights group.

But that's not Shuler, a former NFL quarterback who hopes his pro-gun and anti-abortion positions appeal to swing voters and social conservatives alike in this mountainous district in western North Carolina.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., addresses a crowd on healthcare issues in Woonsocket, R.I., in this file photo from June 23, 2006. House Republicans are targeting Pelosi by warning their supporters that she is in line to become Speaker should the Democrats take control of the House in the November elections. (AP Photo/Steven Senne, File)

Instead, Taylor's target this summer is Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, the California congresswoman who has emerged as a "boogey-woman" of sorts for Republicans campaigning this year on the idea that Democrats can't be trusted with control of the House.

"Rookie Heath Shuler is following the playbook of San Francisco liberal Nancy Pelosi," an announcer intones as the noise of a stadium crowd and marching band plays in the background of a 60-second Taylor radio spot. "The Pelosi game plan: Elect Heath Shuler and others like him, and take over Congress with the votes of illegal immigrants."

1. "...take over Congress with the votes of illegal immigrants."
Now there's a straw-man if I ever saw one.

Illegal immigrants don't vote. They can't.

What's more, there's no evidence that there's ANY voter fraud committed by illegal immigrants.

This needs to backfire. How can we help?

2. Only a matter of time, and how wonderful for them she's female!!!
Majority Leader Reid doesn't scare those lads as much....but oooooooh, Speaker PELOSI....that's almost as scary as Hillary!!!

Between their fear and twitchiness about gay men and their incredibly vicious hatred of smart, capable women, it's amazing they aren't replicating in petri dishes and that they get any from anyone, ever!!! It also must account for those barnyard incidents we hear about every so often, and those 'man on dog' warnings....

5. Pelosi Does Hurt Us
As a vet and life-long dem, I strongly back Jack Murtha for speaker. Any "weak on defense" crap would be negated, and I just like the way he stands up to these dishonest freaks.

If they didn't, it would be illegal to bullshit your way through an election campaign.

11. Nancy is tough as nails and a great team player. Remember
she was the one that first said, "miserable failure"?

I don't agree with her on many things but I sure respect how capable she is and how hard she works.

Kick their @sses, Nancy.

So whether it's sexism, racism, xenophobia, homophobia or what have you, the GOP will be flinging every last scrap of shit they have at hand. They're going to make it as ugly as they can, up to and including shitting and pissing themselves to make the job of getting their blood-soaked mitts off the levers of power as distasteful and hard as possible.

So brace yourselves, my friends. These guys aren't going to go easily or gently.

14. Nancy Pelosi then becomes President?
Assuming a Democratic win in the House and/or Senate, articles of impeachment would almost certainly be brought up against Bush and Cheney by the House and probably ratified by the Senate. With the President and Vice President removed, the line of sucession points to the Speaker of the House.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_line_of_succession

I expect this will also come up, if not officially stated, and there will be a grassroots effort to get this out.

On the plus side, once the Speaker becomes Prez, he or she can pick whoever for the veep slot, subject to Senate approval. Vice-President Rhandi Rhodes? Thom Hartmann? Howard Dean? Al Gore? Mike Malloy? Al Franken? John Murtha? Russ Feingold? Hillary Clinton? Ted Kennedy? Tom Dashle? Wes Clarke?

I think all but perhaps 2 of the people on that list would cause instant coronary explosion in the fundies and the the corporate elite. Not necessarily a bad thing, albeit messy.

Edited on Sun Aug-13-06 12:24 AM by Theduckno2
Thanks to MADem for pointing out the apparent hypocrisy of the GOP not having trouble the concept of Majority Leader Reid, but get their undies in a bunch over a Rep. Pelosi as House Speaker.

As for the illegal immigrants voting issue, NEVER enter a limbo contest with a Republican for there is no limit to how "low" they will go!

:)
