No Republican on ballot, Lampson's chances soar
But the GOP is expected to spend freely for DeLay's former home turf

Nick Lampson once faced a tough race against Tom DeLay in the Republican-leaning 22nd Congressional District.

But the man who served 20 years as Jefferson County tax assessor-collector and eight in Congress has gone from long shot to favorite as the sole major party candidate on the November ballot.

Republicans are putting up a write-in candidate to challenge him. But no write-in has ever won a House race in Texas.

"We don't want to be the first candidate to lose to a write-in," said Lampson campaign manager Mike Malaise. "We can't not run. We can't sit aside and count on procedure to win for us. We have to win it."

1. Ha ha ha, I am so loving this
The Hamper sure showed himself for what he is. He ran in the GOP primary so he could raise a lot of campaign cash to use for his legal defense and not for the purpose that contributors had intended. He and his cronies had thought that by running and then resigning after he won, they could hand-pick the GOP candidate, thwarting the will of Sugar Land Republicans. That didn't work out, did it?

And now he's so afraid of getting his ass handed to him by Lampson, he's decided to just leave his party twisting in the wind by having his name, as the only legal GOP candidate, left off the ballot.

And that's one more needed House seat that's now being projected for Democrats. Life is good.

2. not just any house seat
A house seat that was occupied by a very malignant individual who was given the power of the majority party.

3. It would be just terrific if Lampson captured Tom DeLay's district.
Go, Nick.

4. "[N]o write-in has ever won a House race in Texas."
Ah, but no other write-in candidate had Diebold!

Now taking bets that the as-yet-unnamed Repug will be the first to win.
