News-7 Poll: Sen. Allen remarks "inappropriate" (47% not Racial Slur)
http://www.wdbj7.com/Global/story.asp?S=5293378

A News-7 SurveyUSA poll found that a majority of Virginians (56%) had heard about Senator George Allen's remarks to a campaign volunteer for his opponent, Jim Webb.

Of the 309 people who were familiar with the story, two-thirds (67%) thought it was inappropriate for Sen. Allen to refer to the college student of Indian descent as "Macaca," but the respondents were more evenly divided over whether the comments were a racial slur.

Allen has apologized for the remark. Half those surveyed said he needs to say more, while 46% thought the apology was sufficient.

While respondents were evenly divided on whether the incident will hurt the Senator's re-election changes or have no effect, 61% thought the comments would hurt Allen's chances in a campaign for President of the United States.

<snip>

Do you think Allen's comments were a racial slur?

45% Yes

47% No

8% Not Sure

It's as if a number of the polled individuals are saying, "Yeah, he's a racist but we don't mind so much, but the rest of the country might if he ran for higher office....Those sensitive liberals!"

5. Hey what issue is that comic panel from?
I was listening to an interview the other week with one of the actors from the old Superman series. And he was commenting on all of the bondage imagery that went into the series.

Lois did seem to have gotten tied up quite a bit. :P

3. If Allen was going to lie instead of apologizing, he could've done better
He could have claimed he meant to say, "Fakakta" and got it confused with "Macacca."

fakakta: Yiddish for crazy, all mixed up.

6. These white owned corporations are going into black communities
and taking out black owned businesses by under cutting them.

7. Roanoke, Va., eh?
Not quite the liberal center of Virginia, but it concerns me more than 40% of those polled haven't heard about Mr. Allen's "oopsie". So the 45% of the yes votes in the poll, are of 60% who have heard about it ?

God, I love the media

11. It was a statewide poll
Roanoke City is fairly liberal the county not so much. Everyday on the way to work I pass at least one car that still has a Kerry sticker on it and plenty of Jim Webb signs.
