Sept. 11 plaintiffs wait for answers, resolution
(snip)

``We did not join this lawsuit or choose to sue for monetary reward," said Carie Lemack, whose mother, Judy Larocque of Framingham, chief executive of a market research firm, died on Flight 11, which originated in Boston. ``It was always about accountability and it remains about accountability today, because reforms that are desperately needed are not happening."

(snip)
Motley, for his part, said depositions ``most certainly will turn out to be meaningless because of the irrational position of the federal government" on, for example, not releasing pre-9/11 security policies. A trial could be inevitable, he said, if certain clients refuse to accept settlements.

(snip)
``Why aren't you settling your cases?" Hellerstein said to Migliori at a June 8 hearing in US District Court in New York.

``We're working on it," Migliori replied.

``You're not working hard enough. Ms. Birnbaum tells me she is getting no response from you. . . . Tell your colleagues that the judge is getting very impatient with this."
(snip)

'`Of course they're in it for the money," said Loretta Filipov of Concord, whose husband, Alexander, was on Flight 11. ``But they're also doing a service for the country, they're doing a service for the people."

My Comment: The first snip with the quote about 'accountability' says it all for me. That's what people what but that's exactly what the government can NOT give. The goal of the government is to protect the status-quo, protect the corporations and industries. I wish these people luck but I think the reality is one way or another these cases will be settled or quietly tried with no real answers or accountability as the outcome.

1. Lawsuits take a long time to wend their way through the courts
Perhaps that needs to change: one appeal and that's it. Scumbag lawyers also take most of the settlement money for themselves.

In any event, these cases will be tied up in knots for years, and I very seriously doubt that any of these people will see little more than a token amount of money many years later.

3. I remember when that lawsuit was first instituted and the high hopes we
here on DU had for getting "discovery evidence" out about what really happened on 9/11 and before. We thought that having that big law firm who won the Tabacco Case would be able to get access to information from the government. I think that the Motley Law Firm might have been more of a friend to the government than we had all hoped for. This article seems to focus on the money the firm wants for the plaintiffs. I wonder if they really tried hard enough to get info released. "Civil Suits" we were told are able to get more info out of the government than Pat Fitzgerald could as a Special Prosecutor. I guess we were told wrong.

Sad to read this...

5. That's the saddest thing I have ever heard
I hope that this stays up on the Greatest Page. It's a mockery of what this country is about.
