San Francisco hotel workers vote in favor of strike

By Jesse Russell

San Francisco hotels could once again be heading for a strike. The workers have been without a contract since 2004, unable to reach an agreement with San Francisco hotels over wage, workloads and healthcare issues. The last strike was in 2004 which was followed by a lock-out by hotel owners. It is the most recent major hotel city to vote in favor of a strike, with Chicago, Honolulu, Monterey, Calif. and Toronto all lining up for nationwide pickets. Contracts in Boston and Los Angeles will expire in January. Represented by Unite Here, the union said the strike vote was an attempt to find closure in bargaining with the hotel owners.
