Poll: Americans say nation isn't ready for disaster

WASHINGTON -- Their confidence shaken by Katrina, most Americans don't believe the nation is ready for another major disaster, a new AP-Ipsos poll finds.
Poor people are more likely to fear becoming victims of the next disaster.

The survey, conducted one year after the devastating hurricane and with much of New Orleans still in shambles, found diminishing faith in the government's ability to deal with emergencies. It also gave President Bush poor marks for his handling of the storm's aftermath.

The first hurricane of the Atlantic season could provide an eerily timed test of preparedness. Forecasters believe Ernesto could strengthen near Florida and grow into a Category 3 hurricane by Thursday.

Fifty-seven percent in the poll said they felt at least somewhat strongly the country was ill-prepared -- up from 44 percent in the days after the storm slammed ashore on Aug. 29, 2005. Just one in three Americans polled believe Bush did a good job with Katrina, down from 46 percent a year ago.

2. I still remember the fabrications he created for D'Amato.
I remember when FOX SNOOZE covered the phony D'Amato hearings and did everything they could to bring down Clinton. Chertoff looked like a Nazi then and he still is.

3. Katrina was just small potatoes...
compared to some disasters that COULD happen. If the New Madrid or San Andreas faults let loose with an 8.0+, or if the Yellowstone caldera erupted, there would be extreme damage/loss of life, and this administration would not be effective in handling the response.

4. It wasn't ready for 9/11, anthrax attacks or Katrina/Rita
This is news?

Hell, we were all here watching these uber slackers. Bush didn't even leave his seat after hearing that his country was under armed attack. He didn't want an investigation into 9/11, has done nothing about the anthrax attacks (the forgotten terrorist attack after 9/11) and was on vacation for Katrina's arrival.

In fact, where is Bush RIGHT NOW?

Damn right we're not ready. We've got a Slacker in Chief to show us the way.

8. How could the country be ready?
Dubya is still in the WH.

In fact, that's a disaster in itself for which the nation has been unready for past 5+ years.
