Two Iraqi units have refused deployment

WASHINGTON, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Members of two Iraqi military units have refused orders to deploy to heavily contested areas, a top U.S. military general said.

But the apparent mutinies have been limited to just two units, according to Brig. Gen. Dana Pittard, commander of the Iraq Assistance Group, the force of 3,000 coaltion military and police trainers fanned out across Iraq.

The most recent was last week, when about 100 soldiers in the 2nd Battalion, 4th Brigade of the 10th Iraqi Army based in Maysan province, refused orders to deploy to Baghdad as part of Operation Together Forward.

Earlier, an unspecified number of Iraqi soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Brigade of the 2nd Iraqi Army Division refused to deploy from northern Iraq to Ramadi with the American 1st Brigade of the 1st Armored Division.

1. Aw, shucks, only two unit mutineed. What's the fuss?
They're entitled to their opinions, right? Probably had better things to do.

3. Not to worry, Iraqis
George W. Bush has guaranteed that U.S. men and women will be killing and dying in Iraq for as long as it takes for you to decide to kill your countrymen all on your own. Without any deadline, timetable, or other plan for a troop drawdown, you folks can take all the time you want to get trained (or not). Bush and Rumsfeld will keep shipping our people over to Iraq even if it takes five, six or even seven rotations of every person in the military.

And if you join up and refuse to follow orders, don't sweat it. We'll fill your place with some 17- or 18-year-old kid deluded by false promises of training and college money to die in the desert 10,000 miles from home.

4. Not to worry, the mutinies only involve the hottest hot zones.

Where the combat ISN'T hot and heavy, Iraqi units are serving with relish.

Edit: The preceding poster had the same idea. I was thinking of making a crack about oh, as the Iraqis stand down, American back-door draftees stand up.
