Grisly discovery made at Iraqi school (24 people tortured and executed)
Baghdad, Iraq - Iraqi police Tuesday found the bodies of 24 people who had apparently been tortured and shot before being dumped in two separate locations in Baghdad, police said.

Eleven bullet-riddled corpses, with their hands and legs bound, were found near a school in the Shiite dominated Maalif neighbourhood in southern Baghdad, police 1st Lieutenant Mutaz Salahiddin said.

Police found another the bodies of another 13 people, believed to have been aged between 25 and 35, dumped behind a Shi'a mosque in the Turath neighbourhood in western Baghdad, said police 1st Lieutenant Maitham Abdul-Razaq.

He said the bodies were all handcuffed, showed signs of torture and had been shot in the head.

"It is difficult to decide what is appropriate and what is allowed under law," said Gonzales, who has drawn criticism in the past for describing the Geneva Conventions against prisoner abuse as "quaint".

...about "freshly painted" schools in Iraq.

11. What do you expect? It's only going to get worse......
Wait until the actual civil war itself starts when the "coalition of the willing"(ha) pulls out. Shia and Sunni death squads will spend their days exchanging massacres similar to Beirut in the 80s except probably more along the line of say the Rwandan "civil war"/genocide.

13. Ridding the country of military-age men.
How practical. Who needs a generation of husbands, fathers, breadwinners? Not a nation in civil war.

14. Right, except for the fact that it was not mentioned that
all of them were men. So add to the bodycount mothers, sisters, daughters, and BREADWINNERS.

24. You're right.
I was making an assumption, which I shouldn't have. But I remember reading Riverbend saying there wasn't a block that hadn't lost men, that men within a certain age range had begun to disappear. So I assumed they were still rounding up young men.

And I was remembering Bosnia, where Muslim men were separated from their wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, and bussed away to their mass grave.

But I should have read more closely.

17. Also, consider the form of torture
Almost certainly, it was the prevalent drill torture, which is a horrifying new feature on the US imperial landscape.
