Belarus Wants to Sell Venezuelan Oil to U.S.
Belarusian government delegation is visiting Venezuela to negotiate the set-up of a joint oil venture. The initial agreement was reached during July visit of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to Minsk.

The deputy director for oil and gas of the Belarusian state company Belgeologia Yaroslav Gribik told Interfax on Monday, Sept. 4, that Belarus is considering “cooperation with Venezuelan oil companies”. Belarus is ready to develop oil fields in Venezuela on concessionary terms and to sell the oil to the United States.

“If Belarus manages to secure a position on the Venezuelan oil market, we could produce oil and sell it to the Unites States. The profits would help to develop Belarusian oil refineries,” the official said.

He added that Belarus views Venezuela as a gateway to the Latin American market. Gribik also said that the survey and assessment of oil blocs as well as the design and construction of oilrigs are all promising areas for his country.

Worse, Lukashenko teamed up with Bush's South American nemesis, Chavez..

2. Let me get this straight.
A few weeks ago, Hugo Chavez announced that Venezuela would no longer sell its oil to the U.S.

Now a middleman, Belarus, offers to sell the same produce to the U.S. with a mark-up.

Chavez must be laughing his ass off.

3. Does everybody see what is happening here?
This move has the mark of a certain Señor Hugo Chavez. Venezuela is hedging itself against any kind of attack from the U.S.

This was a very shrewd move on the part of Chavez. He has involved other countries as a protective move, building a buffer between himself & the maniacs in Washington.

I'm assuming Belarus is under the protection of Russia, correct? Which means that Venezuela now has a POWERFUL friend looming in the background. This all but assures that the US cannot bomb Caracas....

6. Because helping Belarus' state industries is a good thing?
Seems like a strange view.

All politics is truly local. Even international politics is local.

To the US.

7. Because America needs to *buy* oil and Venezuela needs to sell oil.

This arrangment only helps both countries. Although, I'd rather America just cut out the middle man.

I want America to be signing these deals, not other oil consuming countries.
