Harris Looks Like Primary Winner

Sep 4, 6:13 PM (ET)

By BRENDAN FARRINGTON

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Disaster may not be too strong a word for Rep. Katherine Harris' Senate campaign.

Her makeup and formfitting clothes are mocked on national TV. Her flirty interview style embarrasses her campaign handlers. Staffers keep quitting in despair.

She's been linked to a shady defense contractor, caught in fibs and scolded for telling voters that non-Christian politicians "legislate sin."

U.S. Senate hopeful Katherine Harris, center, talks to her assistant Esteban Ferreiro, right, as two men play dominos at the Maximo Gomez Park Domino Club in the Little Havana section of Miami Monday, Sept. 4, 2006. (AP Photo/Luis M. Alvarez)

Yet, on the strength of her name recognition, Harris is expected to win Florida's GOP Senate nomination on Tuesday, to the chagrin of many Republicans.

2. Lesson: no matter how awful a person you are, no matter how
badly you've mismanaged your campaign, no matter how much hatred has escaped your lips, the GOP voter will adore you.

In other words, the Dem leadership should give up on the GOP voter, they're never going to change. Sound like Democrats for a change, mend fences with the party base, and you might just get elected.

6. Well, the Republicans don't have any HUMAN
candidates running in Florida this year, near as I can tell.

They haven't had an emotionally mature adult in a high-profile office for a long time. Connie Mack is the last one who comes to mind. He's conservative, but profoundly and genuinely decent.

Can't say the same for Jeb Bush, Cruella, Charlie Crist, and so on down the list of democracy-challenged Rethugs.

If GOP primary voters have no more sense than to nominate Harris, let's hope that Bill Nelson crushes her like a potato chip.

Someone like Katherine Harris should not be in public service at all.

8. I'm no Hollywood model, so I can't comment on the physical personality
of Katherine Harris, but I sure can say I'm still pissed off at her role in stealing the election from Al Gore in 2000.

Just as I think Ken Blackwell should rot in Hell for stealing Ohio from Kerry-Edwards.

Both of them were Secretaries of State, both presiding officers for their states' elections, and both are going to get their sorry asses whipped on Nov. 7th.

That karmic boomerang is comin' around the home stretch.

10. If Kathrine Harris can steal a Presidential election,
why can't she steal one for herself?

Or maybe 2 or 3? "Senator Harris." "Votes" say so, so there!

But she's getting murdered in all polls.

If she's the nominee tomorrow night, she's the landslide loser November 7th.

one might be on or what mental state one might be in to actually go out of the door, get into the car and drive to the local polling place to actually cast a vote for Katharine Harris.

The woman has the IQ of cool whip. She talks like some 12 year old drama student with no talent. Is she trying to seduce her constituents? Has she promised them all a shot at Spunk and Moxie? What is the appeal of this woman, other than some joke for cable comedy?

Is the Florida electorate that vacuous?

38. No drugs necessary...
You just have to be a Republican. Think of the lowest common demoninator that would could possibly imagine, and then burrow down another ten feet, and there you'll find the Republicans core constituency. They would (and often do) vote for child molesters provided they have the coveted "(R)" behind their name. They will vote against their own economic interests. They will vote to all but destroy our national defense. Just be rabidly anti-abortion and anti-gay, and you're in link flint.

They don't care about this country. Never did. Never will.

21. obligatory Harris on Hannity video post
from the article:

>>Harris stood at an angle reminiscent of a beauty queen, with a smile to match. She repeatedly told hosts Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes that she was "excited" about the campaign, but she didn't have much of substance to say. At times she appeared to be flirting with Hannity.

As her campaign manager at the time, Dornan said he was "mortified."

"She doesn't interview, she flirts. And it's offensive to professional women and it's embarrassing," he said.<<

31. She's fighting the GOP machine in her home state......
I've read most of them don't want her running because they know about her hated reputation throughout large portions of the state. She's really putting her legacy and reputation on the line with this move because if she loses she will most likely be un-officially kicked out of the party for good. There is no way in hell she can and I think election will be the final straw to break the camel's back in Florida. With the hoards of latino and New Yorker voters moving in -- both groups tending to be Democrat-leaning we're going to see a political shift in Florida and the old white Republican vanguard(of which she is a part) isn't going to survive.
