Pentagon moves to help those overseas to vote (November elections)

Briefly: Pentagon moves to help those overseas to vote

WASHINGTON: The Pentagon is counting on its improved Web site to help about 6.5 million Americans to vote in November, including soldiers at war and others living overseas.

Officials said the site included information on how voters can request ballots by fax and e-mail rather than rely on slower postal service. The Defense Department is responsible for the balloting process not only for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, but for all expatriates.

Potential voters include all 1.4 million active-duty soldiers in the United States and abroad, about 1.4 million family members and 3.7 million Americans living outside the country, said Polli Brunelli, director of the Pentagon's Federal Voting Assistance Program.

Some soldiers and expatriates said they did not vote in the 2000 election because they never received ballots or got them too late.

5. mark crispin miller agrees with you.
they pulled the plug on this very website after assuring expats that they would be able to navigate all the twists and turns of oversees voting with the help of the nice fellows at the pentagon. they said it had to come down over "security concerns".
they very successfully stymied overseas voters, including service members.

2. 72% of the troops favor pull out in 2006
and almost all the vets running are Dems.

An overwhelming majority of 72% of American troops serving in Iraq think the U.S. should exit the country within the next year, and more than one in four say the troops should leave immediately, a new Le Moyne College/Zogby International survey shows.

4. That will be icing on the cake
to the other stolen elections as Republican just narrowly hold onto their majorities in both houses. There will be enough for show and some pandering after the fact, of "we get the message" and then business as usual.
