Israeli President Questioned in Sex Case

Police investigators on Wednesday questioned President Moshe Katsav for a third time over sexual harassment allegations that have prompted calls for his resignation.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said Katsav was questioned for five hours at his official residence. He said questioning of Katsav and some of his staff would continue Thursday.

Senior police officers are looking into a complaint filed by a former presidential employee alleging that Katsav made unwanted sexual advances. Israeli media have reported that another former employee alleged that Katsav sold presidential pardons - one of the few powers conferred by his largely ceremonial office.

Katsav has denied the allegations. Investigators are also looking into his allegation of an extortion attempt by one of the former employees.
