Bush calls CIA prisons 'vital' tool

By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 13 minutes ago

WASHINGTON -President Bush on Wednesday acknowledged for the first time that the CIA runs secret prisons overseas and said tough interrogation forced terrorist leaders to reveal plots to attack the United States and its allies.

Bush said 14 suspects — including the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks and architects of the 2000 bombing of the
USS Cole and the U.S. Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania — had been turned over to the Defense Department and moved to the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for trial.

"This program has been, and remains, one of the most vital tools in our war against the terrorists," Bush said.

"Were it not for this program, our intelligence community believes that al-Qaida and its allies would have succeeded in launching another attack against the American homeland."

Releasing information declassified just hours earlier, Bush said the capture of one terrorist just months after the Sept. 11 attacks had led to the capture of another and then another, and had revealed planning for attacks using airplanes, car bombs and anthrax......

1. Then bring them to justice in the US
and put them on trial.

How many terrorists has W convicted since 9-11? Oh and by the way, where's Osama?

2. Waaidammmiiinniiit!!!
Hasn't the Bush Administration denied from the very beginning that they were doing this?? Isn't this a huge reversal of their "statements of facts??"
I believe that this new "modified "letting it all hang out" is because they know what theyre doing is clearly illegal and that Bush wants Congress to change the rules and goal posts for him again to keep him out of jail.

6. Heck yeah! It's all over the WH web site. And you just had to HATE
the way he used the 9-11 families at his speech to push Congress to do it. Next up the NAS wiretapping...

He's got to get as much pushed through Congress in the next few days before they start dispersing to hit the campaign trail. So much CYA to get through, so little time.

5. Then charge them for the criminal acts they have allegedly
taken part in. do not glorify these cheap thugs by elevating the crime to Bush's vote stealing Terrorist label. Make them the petty punks they are and charge them with conspiracy, attempted murder, transporting illegal explosive devices...

Treat these people like any other person who tries to kill others, prove them guilty (like clinton did) and put the fuckers in prison.

Bush and his gutless ilk have changed the rules to where he can imprison anyone HE deems an enemy combatant. he has ok'd torture and America pays bounty for "terror suspects" turned in by our "friendly partners" in the war on terror. Bush can try people with "secret evidence" the alleged terrorist cannot see or get a chance to refute, there are warrant less wiretaps and searches and these guys STILL fuck up prosecutions.

These people who attacked us...Bin Laden and AL QAEDA, not Iraq and Iraqis, are criminals, treat them as such, investigate them as such and prosecute them as such.
