GOP wants McCaskill to apologize for Katrina comments
SAM HANANEL
Associated Press
WASHINGTON - GOP lawmakers on Thursday blasted Democratic Senate candidate Claire McCaskill for comments she made this week about President Bush's response to Hurricane Katrina.

During a meeting with Democratic political leaders in St. Louis on Wednesday, McCaskill remind people that, "George Bush let people die on rooftops in New Orleans because they were poor and because they were black."

The comments, first reported on the St. Louis political blog Pub Def Weekly, came during a discussion about Missouri Republican Sen. Jim Talent's efforts to woo black voters in the November election.

"These outrageous comments have no place in public discourse," said Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., in an e-mail statement. "I imagine that Claire McCaskill could not have meant what she is saying here, and I hope she will apologize for these shameful remarks."

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., called on McCaskill to "apologize immediately to President Bush and the members of the rescue effort that she slurred."

7. I believe Harry Truman said
something to the effect of "I just tell them the truth and they think it's Hell". She has nothing to apologize for because it is the Truth and I would be very disappointed in her if she did retract or modify her remarks. She will still get my vote and what money I have and can send.

6. Frist's quote is particularly disgusting
I mean, Bush and the "members of the rescue effort"? Like the bumbling thieves Chertoff and Brownie and then Mr. Flyover on Air Force One?

She's got nothing to apologize for; she's spot on right.

25. Unless Hell has frozen over....
and I don't know about it-she doesn't owe them an apology. To apologize is to admit you were wrong and she is not wrong. Everyone that saw the news and saw all those dead bodies in the waterways and at the Superdome know she is 'tellin it true'. In fact there were a lot of white folk that were killed too. Bush just doesn't give a rat's ass about anyone that isn't his rich corperate base.

think of how this went too far. Of course there is no clear statement of Bush's state of mind in this regard, just his actions. It is hard to argue by Bush's (in)action that Claire is wrong. It could be worse. Jeb takes care of his GOP constituent rich white hurricane victims simply because of political expedience. The real state of mind of Bush could be coldly worse. Simple depraved indifference to ALL human life not useful to himself at the moment.

That depraved indifference could explain Bush's sole preparation to exploit the situation after, at his leisure and dump it off to GOP structured failed agencies and crooked crony contractors for the political restructuring of Louisiana, an oil power that too often votes dangerously Democratic. As important as the ME or Venezuela, the destruction of democracy in every oil region of the US is a priority(note Alaska and crooked elections).

The particular prejudices of rich frat boy Bush are pretty easy to extrapolate, but I think the Bush motivation is worse and the ATTACK against poor blacks more widespread than Bush himself.

Trying to condemn the democratic response is deference to some fantasy that Bush demonstrated care or competence. Since that is such a bigger stretch the GOP howling is only about some royal prerogative of respect that Bush never earned nor ever held legitimately. Considering, they should have kept their mouths shut, but this as usual is about bullying, not a fair protest or moral outrage. The masters of gutter politics have no moral grounds to cast stones, especially not in this case. Their entire party is factually predicated upon persecution of blacks and the poor.

Like Dole and Frist have never said anything about our president Bill Clinton! Who in the hell cares what they think? Barbara Bush blatantly made fun of the poor unforttunate people living in the dome;
and her son George is just like her.

I'm sorry that I live in a nation where, more than 150 years after thousands died to secure the blessings of liberty for all Americans, we now have a government that values its citizens on the basis of the color of their skin. I'm sorry. Very, very sorry.
