On his knees, Bush pins his hopes on fear
http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/on-his-knees-bush-pins-his-hopes-on-fear/2006/09/08/1157222334285.html

GEORGE BUSH was fighting for his presidency this week as much as for the Republican members of Congress who face defeat at the mid-term congressional elections less than two months away.

In a series of speeches - and particularly his announcement that 14 alleged terrorist leaders, including Khalid Sheik Mohammed, said to be the chief architect of the September 11 attacks, had been moved from secret CIA prisons to Guantanamo Bay and would face military commissions - Mr Bush showed that even a president politically on his knees is still a force to be reckoned with.

No matter that the military commissions Mr Bush proposes are little different to the ones the Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional in June. Or that Mr Bush virtually admitted that the CIA had used what amounted to torture - in most reasonable definitions of the term - interrogating these alleged terrorists.

What Mr Bush managed to do was focus attention on the one issue that his political adviser, Karl Rove, has used so effectively in the past: national security and the threat of terrorism.

In 2002 and 2004 it was the fear of terrorist attacks and doubts about the Democratic Party's commitment to fighting terrorism that delivered Republican victories. This time round, the fear factor is just about all that Republicans have going for them.

Mr Bush is a wounded, deeply unpopular president, fighting a war that Americans feel has made them less safe and cost hundreds of billions of dollars and the lives of almost 3000 soldiers. The Republican-controlled Congress, virtually every poll says, is on the nose with a large majority - more than 70 per cent - who are angry and disappointed with the way their politicians are governing.

1. I don't know what they have planned....
for October, but I don't expect them to go quietly into that good night. I wish we could vote now, so Bush won't be on my tv anymore. It seems he's been on my tv more in the last few months, than his entire pResidency. I hope people see it for what it is, it's called "electioneering" on the taxpayer's dime.

8. Why hasn't done anything about illegals?
It's amazing how someone who uses so much scare tactics. Yet, he won't do anything about people, which can be anybody bringing just about anything, hopping across the borders. A terrorist can sneak in illegally as a Mexican, hold a job on some farm, and spray toxins all over the food supply. Even worse, they could come in as a human time bomb with some weird contagious disease. It's a no brainer--DUH! But I guess the profits of cheap labor is too good do something about it.

9. Bush will hit Iran before the (s)Election
.
.
.

I know all the "analysts" are saying March 2007,

but I ain't an analyst.

US hits Iran, Iran retaliates by attacking Israel and invades Iraq to go after USA ground forces - -

US gets into full-blown war(again) martial law and conscription(the draft)comes back to the US

USA - the Vikings of the 21st Century

By the way . . . .

How did them Vikings fare out?

RIGHT!

And so will go the U S of A . . . .

16. But, but... Bunnypants is a UNITER, not a DIVIDER... (right?)
(from the article)

It will be a politically brutal and divisive campaign. On the available evidence, it is unlikely to work.

So Emperor Lip-Smackin'-Good, with all his histrionics and lies and good-ol'-boy farts, can't seem to convince the Great Unwashed Masses that his policies are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Congratulations, asswipe. You've turned America against itself. Osama would be proud.

17. RIGHT! - he's united Iran and Iraq, and now Russia and China against
.
.
.

any military action against Iran . . .

IRAN isn't occupying another sovereign nation like the US is

It's just trying to protect itself from the obvious US/PNACers' aggression.

Iraq disarmed, then got invaded, occupied and destabilized - all courtesy of the US

Iran ain't going down that road

Iran has more weapons, and almost 4 times the population of Iraq

And Iraq is keeping the GREAT war-machine in a "hold" mode

USA nomba one -

yeah right . . . . .
