Bush, wife lay wreaths at ground zero
Sept 10, 2001

NEW YORK - President Bush and his wife Laura stood in somber silence on Sunday after laying wreaths at the ground zero site where the twin towers of the World Trade Center once stood. They honored the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks on a tour that will take them to all three sites of devastation on the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The Bushes set floral wreaths adrift in ponds of water that mark the former location of the north and south towers. They uttered no words, and walked hand-in-hand on the floor of the cavernous pit, after a slow procession down the long, flag-lined ramp from the street level four to five stories above.

The Bushes then attended a service of prayer and remembrance at nearby St. Paul's Chapel.

20. Question: Are they laying a wreath in honor of the victims
.

Question: Are they laying a wreath in honor of the victims of September 11, 2001 who died on that day or shortly thereafter? Or are they laying a wreath in honor of the emergency responders and subsequent responders who "cleaned up" the scene then died and continue to die due to our government's failure to warn/publish (1) accurate information about hazardous clean-up conditions, and (2) appropriate equipment to prevent inhaling and/or exposure to such hazardous conditions?

Answer: Neither bc George Walker Bush is a chickenhawk hypocrite to the core.

The cynic in me says that it was meant to connect with the notion of baptism somehow, for the sake of his fundamentalist base. For the life of me, I don't see the connection between WTC and floating wreaths. The towers were on dry land.

Bush vows never to forget Sept. 11 lessons

NEW YORK, Sept 10 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush made a pilgrimage to New York's Ground Zero on Sunday on the eve of the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and said he would never forget the lessons of that day.

...

"I vowed that I'm never going to forget the lessons of that day," Bush told reporters before a memorial on the side of the firehouse of Ladder Co. 10, Engine Co. 10.

"There's still an enemy out there that would like to inflict the same kind of damage again," Bush said. "So tomorrow is also a day of renewing resolve."

...

Outside the World Trade Center site, several dozen people held up banners and shouted, "Arrest Bush Now," "Bring the Troops Home" and "Stop Exploiting 9/11."

"This visit is another political ploy for Bush to try to sound like he is strong on security when our country is much less safe," said 77-year-old protester Ann Muyskens.

mr. ramsey act like he was happy the killer got caught (knowing all the while john karr didn't do it.) while I was watching bush and mrs. sedated put that wreath in the water today.

Bush did know the towers were going to get bombed, he admits to having the file IN HIS HANDS, that august, even though he says he didn't read it (convienient lie)

He is responsible because he let it happen. What greater failure of a president could there be than one that allows america to be attacked.

Really, it was no different than watching jonbennets dad.

At least I never believed jonbenets dad was directly responsible for anyones death. Bush however does have blood on his hands.

42. The lessons he learned:
1) You can lie about anything and get away with it if you put on a pious face, clasp your hands together, and talk about the lord.

2) Being pretzeldent is a lot like playing chess. You've got your important pieces, like Rummy the Rook and Cheney the Queen. And then you have your pawns...which are all the other folks. Pawns just don't matter.

3) People will do almost anything you tell them to if they're scared enough...even put the duct tape industry back on the map.

59. If he were to remember 9-11
There is more to rememberance of 9/11 than just laying a wreath.

9/11 is an event, a horror, and a cautionary tale of what should not happen.

It should not happen that a nations actions are dictated by politics, not principle.
It should not happen that we sacrifice our safety for corporate greed.
It should not happen that we forget what needs to happen to make us safe.

Protecting our ports makes us safe, 'Shock and awe' doesn't
Protecting our Power plants makes us safe, not leaving iraqi nuke plants unprotected.
Finding the people who did this, and putting them to justice makes us safe, platitudes do not.
Addressing the security issues within the US makes us safe. Taking the fight to the enemy doesn't

If he remembered 9/11 we would still be hunting for OBL (assuming he's not captured or killed).
If he remembered 9/11 we would have safe ports.
If he remembered 9/11 we would have safe Airports.
If he remembered 9/11 we would have better integration within the intelligence gathering community.
If he remembered 9/11 we might have a twin towers.
If he remembered 9/11 we would not be in Iraq, and would not be losing the war in Afghanistan.

He said 'The people who did this would hear us' but he didn't.....
He lied. Even then, he lied.

and now, the health of the nation, and my own as well (I was in NYC during 9/11) is worse because of it.

Bush proclaims a day "of renewing resolve"

By The Associated Press and McClatchy Newspapers

President Bush and his wife, Laura, lay a wreath Sunday at Ground Zero in New York in commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

NEW YORK — President Bush and his wife, Laura, stood in somber silence on Sunday after laying wreaths at the site where the twin towers of the World Trade Center once soared. He later pledged to make the anniversary "a day of renewing resolve" to remember the lessons of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

The Bushes set floral wreaths adrift in reflecting pools that mark the former locations of the north and south towers at the beginning of a two-day fifth-anniversary tour that will take them to all three sites of devastation.

They made a slow procession down a long ramp lined with a flag-bearing honor guard made up of firefighters and police officers, making their way four or five stories below ground level. Uttering no words, the Bushes walked hand-in-hand on the floor of the cavernous pit with bagpipes wailing in the background.

Afterward, the Bushes attended a service of prayer and remembrance at nearby St. Paul's Chapel, greeted firefighters at a firehouse overlooking Ground Zero and toured a private museum next door that is dedicated to 9/11 families.......

....."I vowed that I'm never going to forget the lessons of that day," he said, clutching his wife's hand. "There is still an enemy out there who would like to inflict the same kind of damage again."

.......
Even before Bush left Washington, surrogates from Vice President Dick Cheney on down spent the Sept. 11 anniversary's eve vigorously defending the administration's record on improving the national defense over the past five years.
............

On television and in newspaper opinion columns, Cabinet secretaries and agency heads sought to make the case that the government under Bush has made important changes that have lessened the risk of attack.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice cited additional security at ports and airports and increased cooperation among intelligence agencies, a point echoed by the nation's intelligence chief, John Negroponte.........
