"Multiple" NATO casualties in Afghan suicide blast
Edited on Mon Sep-18-06 04:12 AM by maddezmom
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Reuters) - A suicide bomb blast inflicted "multiple casualties" on a NATO patrol in southern Afghanistan on Monday, the alliance said.

The blast was caused by a suicide attacker in the Panjwai district of Kandahar province, said NATO spokesman, Major Quentin Innis. He gave no more details.

NATO had earlier said the district had been cleared of Taliban militants in a two-week offensive that has just ended.

Residents of the area, about 25 km (15 miles) west of Kandahar city, said the patrol was delivering aid when the attacker struck.

The blast also caused civilian casualties, NATO said.

Bomber targets troops in Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - A suicide bomber attacked Canadian troops who were distributing candy to children Monday in southern Afghanistan, an Afghan official said. NATO confirmed "multiple casualties" among alliance troops.

An Afghan police official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was unauthorized to address the media, said the suicide attacker on a bicycle killed and seriously wounded dozens of people.

NATO spokesman Flight Lt. Euan Downie confirmed an explosion had inflicted an unspecified number of troop casualties in Kandahar. NATO later issued a statement saying "multiple" casualties had been inflicted and that the victims were rushed to a military hospital.

The attack happened in the Kandahar province district of Panjwayi, the scene of a two-week anti-Taliban operation conducted by NATO that ended Sunday.

Four NATO troops killed by suicide blast in crowd of Afghan children

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AFP) - A suicide bomber on a bicycle has blown himself up in a crowd of children clamouring for pens and books from Canadian troops in Afghanistan, killing four
NATO soldiers and a number of civilians, police and NATO said.

Police said Monday around two dozen children were also hurt in the blast that struck a Canadian patrol in volatile Kandahar province, a day after NATO said it had successfully completed a major anti-Taliban operation nearby.

The extremist Taliban movement said it carried out the suicide attack.

"What I can confirm is four ISAF soldiers were killed," Major Quentin Innis, a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), told AFP. Others were wounded but he could not yet say how many.

"There were a number of Afghan civilians that were also killed," Innis said without giving a figure.

6. So I see NATO has taken to using the same rhetoric as the bush cabal
They claimed success in this very area yet soldiers and civilians are still dying. I am SO sick of the lies.
